General Remap question

Featured Replies

I have 3 questions really:-

1) I am asking if any of our mappers on here can give general uplift figures of a remap on the current 1.9 TDi engine ( i.e the 105BHP - 184 lb/ft ), the ones in the current Golf / Polo. ?

2) Could this engine be lifted to current std vRS figures, i.e approx 130BHP - 203lb/ft

3) From any knowledge gained what sort of expected strain would there be ?

Thanks

Been looking in to this myself over the past few months since I aquired my Golf.

Numerous options out there from a number of companies, with increases up to around 130bhp to150bhp - so easily up to and beyond the standard PD130 level of performance.

In terms of strain I believe that is why 150bhp is the max, the engine has bags of potential for more but you'd be into upgraded clutch/turbo territory if you went past the 150bhp mark.

Hope this helps

IIRC Jason had the PD100 and got his tuned to about 145ish bhp, he'll no doubt correct me :o;)

1) Someone can and will

2) Oh yes.

3) Only extra strain on clutches and brakes, dependant on driving style once re-mapped. Although these items are fairly robust anyway.

Johnwg,

Thanks thanks is just what i was looking for , roughly where you start to move into new engine bits territory:)

Am keeping options open, in case the new vRS goes down the petrol route, as an alternate could be an Elegance TDi (105) remapped to 130BHP, and 250lb/ft. or the Grande Punto 130 diesel.

Hopefully it wont come to even considering either of these options.

Its a decent engine in 105bhp guise, I thought it would seem a tad dull after having had the 130bhp version in the VRS, but have been nicely suprised.

Like you say though hopefully it won't be an option you need to consider when the "new VRS" is avilable

It would DEFINATELY :) be dull, current car now has a remap ( out of warranty ). But you can only choose whats around :(
