tunit fabia vrs

Featured Replies

hi, just put a tunit and k&n panel filter on today, results, absolutely fantastic, wow, this takes my vrs up to 150 bhp ish, and the good thing is i can remove the tunit any time i want to , this tunit box actually came of my ex vw beetle tdi 100pd, so i have chipped two cars for the price of one, so why bother with all these remaps,

ime now looking forward to some great motoring

why bother with remaps? because you would have 170 ish bhp, thats a good reason alone!

would to much bhp put a strain on your cluch and turbo

Nah ! Just the wallet and the relationship you may be in ;)

so why bother with all these remaps,

Could be so you get the correct fuel air ratio and don't soot up your VNT? Something that could, in theory at least, be an issue with an over enthusiastically set up tuning box. Not to mention more torque over more of the rev range.

There are pro's and cons of both methods IMHO.

As with most things you should choose which will suit your needs.

A poorly setup tuning box may be no worse than a poorly setup remap.

Quite possibly a poorly setup remap will cause more expensive damage.

how can you tell if a tuning box is poorly set up, youv got me worrying about it now

Smoke!?

I have been looking at remaps and tuning box's for a while (well before I even got my vRS).

I am tempted to go for the tuning box option because I like the idea that it can be taken away for warrenty claims and servicing etc, although I understand that power gains are not as much as a remap.

How many people have got a tuning box and where did they get it from, price etc?

Searching online there are so many to choose from and they all say how good theirs is.

If you goon Motorpoint: UK's No1 Car Supermarket - New and Nearly New Cars they sell "powermaximiser" as an optional extra to their cars. Anyone got that done? is it a remap or chip?

Dragon / Mr Hoot seems to be pretty common amoung VAG owners.

If you are sensible and run it around around 75% or it's maximum setting I would say they you should be fairly safe to do so.

I ran a Dragon box on full power for well over 20K without a single problem. I drove the car VERY hard from time to time too. The output was surprisingly good too

IIRC Jason once said 'If your car's only 160bhp I'll eat my hat!' when we had a play on a local bypass!

I have been running a Tunit on my vRS literlally from the day I bought the car brand new and it now has 12,000 trouble free miles on the clock. I have left the settings as they came 'out of the box' .. have been tempted to up them a bit but didn't want to make my dash light up like a Christmas tree with warning lights !! (Did this once before on a Clio with a Tunit) .. interested to know what others have experienced though or set the box too ??? Have noticed slightly more turbo whistle / slight rattle / pinking at high revs ... but again no real issue and I think it is a by product of the tuning box to make the engine a little 'rougher' similar experience (agin on the Clio) ... Fuel economy has remained the same but engine REVS a lot easier and feels 'quicker' in gear on motor .... not much difference away from the lights ! Does the K&N Filter make much difference ??

Only issue with the tunit is fixing it in the engine bay ... why they don't mold the box with a couple of holes to feed the cable ties through I don't know ! ended up securing to the battery housing and routing round the froint of the engine bay !!

Sit it between the battery and airbox with all the leads coming out toward the engine
