Scratched Alloy Wheel

Featured Replies

Oh dear - misjudged a tight right-hand turn and now a nasty scratch in the left-hand-front alloy.

Metinks I've seen an ad for a fill-in stick which disguises the damage - basically a metallic silver lipstick which you work in to the scratch and then buff off - can anyone give me a lead?

And yes - I do know there are firms which will come to your door and do a proper job. But I'm after something quick and dirty to fill in the time (and the scratch).

I will be watching for an answer as I to scored my right front wheel as I curbed it turning out from behind a parked car in a very narrow road. The inside of the car learned a good few choice words about my stupidity that day.

Theres no worse sound in the world than your alloy being run down the kerb during a misjudges parking manouver as I found out to my horror. After a couple of screams and tears i am the proud owner of a left front scuffed alloy. Am leaving it untreated as a reminder to myself of how stupid I am until the summer when I will get someone out to do a proper job. The touch up stuff sounds a good idea for temporary fix though.

There are firms out there who will restore or refurbish damaged alloy wheels, just Google alloy wheel restorers or furbisher's and you will get hits come up, it is then of finding someone in your area.

They do not give prices so I guess you have to weigh up the cost of getting the repair done plus your time against a new wheel, or consign the damaged wheel to being your Spare and use the pristine alloy from your trunk.

I did mine on a nasty pothole in the dark. Gutted. Longest I've been without scuffing - 8 months. Happens, tho, and I wouldn't refurb until resale time as it *will* happen again...

Just had mine smart repared today after a local tyer fitter damaged all four whilst fitting new tyres. As they say, one is an accident 4 is incompetent! The guy has done a top job, now I just need to get the ba****ds to pay up!!

Yes i'll be looking to touch one of mine up too. I never usually drive into a parking slot forwards, but I needed two spaces together for my father in law to park in the same place near me. Spotted two spaces near a kerb so I pulled in forwards and you can guess what happened next. Front wheel scratched. Also a couple of screams and one or two expletives. Won't be driving forward into a space ever again. I'm also dreading getting new tyres, especially when you some of these kids weilding tyre levers like samurai swords. I hope you do get them to pay.

This sounds more of a paint than a filler - but no indication of supplier or price?

And I had in mid something more like a solid silver metallic wax - surely not that too complicated to produce?

Sorry, should have said who did the repair; it was Chris from BMV Cosmetic Car Repairs, based in Sheffield. He charges £50 a wheel if it needs filling etc. As I said he has done a very good job and the colour match is spot on (apparently there are 7 shades of alloy wheel silver!) however if you want a near match VW Reflex Silver isn't far off if used with fine scractch filler it does a good temp job. I used it on SWMBO's Fabia alloys as she's forever finding the kerb!
