Diesel Particle Filters explained

Featured Replies

This is Renaults explanation of the DPf which is quite easy to follow

Renault FAP

Its interesting to read at the bottom under "Are there any specific operating instructions? " how Renault actually admit they are not suitable for all drivers & all conditions, Perhaps Skoda should view this and be honest to their customers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also worth noting that regeneration is never 100% effective, so, over its life, the DPF will gradually become more restrictive, as un-burnable deposits build up (regeneration is basically when the soot builds up enough, and achieves enough heat to sustain burning, and not everything will burn!). This will lead to a slight drop in engine performance over the filters life. Remapping will almost certainly produce more soot, which will clog the filter more frequently, and set off the regen process more often, increasing back pressure and reducing filter life. Not sure about the DPF's in Skodas, but a DPF for a 4.4l digger costs about 3k to replace! definately worth considering before you tinker too much with your VRS d's.

For the Superb Ive been told it requires 600 of your hard earned squids to replace the DPF although I havent enquired the catual price with Skoda, its also replaced at the 80,000 service. Should it fail during the warranty its classed by Skoda as a consumable, same as the oil & air Filter so you pay  Its possibly the same for the Diesel RS So as you say, remap at your peril !!

You know that DPF's dont actually reduce diesel particulates that much, instead it breaks them down into nano particles that are harder to detect and they are so small they can penetrate the skin.. YAY! It also happens to be a carcinogenic.. whOOp!

Ah great... dash warning signals... more worried customers.
