Still No Power Steering

Featured Replies

A while back I posted the problems I was having with power steering ever since my window got smashed.

I got a second hand PAS pump and got someone to replace it but there is still no PAS.

The orange light has been on the dashbord for a good six months.

Can driving like this cause problems for the steering rack? I am generally quite soft with the car.

Also - What will I need to do to get PAS back - I ve replaced the PAS pump without joy.

instead of messing about spending money on parts that don't fix the job , take the car to a good dealer (if there is one) and let them sort it out , there must be fault codes in there somewhere ,

you've got VAGCOM haven't you , why don't go to the dealer with the list of faults , someone must be able to fix it

has Lummox got any thoughts on this ?

Its needs diagnosis stlll then.

Simple enough to do.

Is there a live at the pump? Is there an earth at the pump? Is there an ignition live at the pump? If all of these are good then providing there isnt a CAN communication fault (easy enough to see in MBV) the pump should work with the diagnostics. This will give you a fault code to work on if its a sensor related fault.

The system is really simple, as long as it has a power supply and it knows you are turning the steering wheel it will work.

Thanks guys

Whats MBV?

Measured Block Values

Just a though but if the car has logged the window smash as a crash it turns off PAS. Had this myself on my cupra just reset it using VAGCOM

The crash sensors are mounted on the floor and in the airbag ECU, not sure if smashing a window would set them off (hazzards should also flash etc).

But a diagnostic test would point that out.

Just checked and indeed Fault code 01656 is crash signal and is sent via the airbag ECU.
