PD170 Rolling Road Results?

Featured Replies

Awesome use big single rollers.

The car is strapped down ontop of the roller.

Do you have any pics as I've not seen or heard of a RR like that before (genuinely interested btw).

The video in the fourth post shows it.

Don't understand how this improves things or how 'riding the rollers' helps.

I thought the Superb 2.0 TDi is not the same engine as in the Octavia and Passat. Same cc, but different architecture. I've heard of standard 140 tdi octavia's hitting 160hp at the fly before, but that's just hearsay. Superchips when they ran theirs saw 148bhp standard.

As for the 170 tdi, Superchips when they ran a Leon FR, it made 179bhp in standard trim, 213bhp when chipped. Go to their website to see the maps.

I quoted Superchips as they acknowledge the car makes over the quoted power as standard.

Colin, did yours not make about 155whp? Which was about right IIRC. It would figure, I colleague at work has an 06 (new shape) BMW 320d and I am literally inching ahead of him on our private runway . . . and they're about 160 at the fly, so maybe the plot from awesome isn't so far out?

BTW, once Awesome post up the plots I'll copy them over here . . . and Bengie, it is standard. :)

Incidentally, just looked at the plot for the Superb . . doesn't look quite like mine. Here's one off Awesome's for an Audi A4 PD140, the figures and graphs are very similar to mine (almost identical) (whp figures):

you don't need more power to be faster than another car, if your car is making more torque and sooner but still making top end power then it will be faster. also you should have lower loses than a BMW due to your car being FWD.

Agreed, although our weighbridge confirms the BMW is a bit lighter. I reckon those figures aren't that far out though. Either way I'm pleased with those results. :)

I saw the Superchips 2.0L PD 170bhp graph a while back (early January I think) and their chipped engine made 213bhp from 179bhp standard

BUT shortly after their application for ALL the VAG 2.0L PD 170 engines, Octavia, Golf & Leon, came off their website and has not reappeared. I wonder why?

That'll be because of the DPF problems, but you probably knew that ;)

Dave.

I had supected something like this.

Anyway; a 'Superchip' has dropped off my shopping list,:( as I've spent more than enough for now on options for my vRS! :D
