Actually, I'd forgotten the Legacy. It's possibly a bit big, but it looks ok.

'Course, I'm not sure what Lady Bertie McHobnobs would think. She's not keen on the remap idea.

if you remap a car and use the extra power the mpg will be significantly worse.

if you remap a car and use the extra power the mpg will be significantly worse.

Maybe if you go blasting about all the time this would be true, in normal day to day driving though there is no difference at all.

At least that's my own experience with the the two remapped Tdi diesels we have in this household. :D

so your not using the extra power then, which is all i said.

as my experince of the two modified cars i've owned is that if you use the extra power the mpg suffers :)

'Course - I do understand that. But if I drove in the same manner before and after there should be only minimal effect on the MPG. No?

[edit] Obviously that rather defeats the object of the remap! ;)

i'd say no, if you cain it standard and remapped there will probably be a noticable difference i'd say.

Most of the time I don't use the extra power that's true.

When I do it's usually for overtakes on A roads etc when I'm on full power but for a shorter space of time than pre-remap. This has not resulted in any noticeable degradation in fuel consumption that I can see. :)

I don't doubt that if I was constantly on the throttle that there would be a difference between pre and post remap figures because obviously the extra power has to come from somewhere. That can only be achieved by either burning more fuel or finding a more efficient way of converting the latent energy stored in the fuel into horse power.

I suspect we are actually saying the same thing, in every day driving there is no real measurable difference in the mpg but if you use the extra power all the time or even a lot then yes, there will be a difference.:D

thats just what i was saying :)

Ye cannae change the laws of physics !

Sorry; I meant in the sense of demanding the same power from it.

One could argue that the entire point of a (bhp-boosting) remap is to enable the engine to burn fuel faster.

I'd avoid the twin turbo legacys. Hard to find parts in the UK, and the sequential turbo can be troublesome. Non turbo is probably alot better as its a UK car.
