Pain in the A*%e

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I come to you for words of wisdom. My Fabia (X reg) when the key is removed from the ignition barrel (the S contact goes off) will not switch on the interior light. Just about every other Fabia I have been in does it. Is this something that I can get sorted by programming the car or am I gonna have to live with it?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Sounds to me a programming job for someone with a VAG COM... I'd just drop by the dealer and ask if they could activate it. Should be a 30 second job from what I've seen.

Unless ofcourse your bulb is dead... then no amount of programming will switch it on ;)

Strange thing is, the light works when you unlock the doors, push the buttons and switch on the light, every other way it is controlled by the courtesy system works fine so the bulb is ok, except when the key is removed from the ignition. I'll get the Techies to have a look, I've tried looking throught the manuals they supply with VAG unit but to no avail, if anyone can help me with this i'd be very grateful :magnify:

Has the s - contact fuse blown, It also controls the automatic turn off of the radio.

Nope the radio turns off when the s-contact is broken!!! Like I said everything is normal except that, does anyone no the coding to switch it back on or something, i'll nab the 1552 at lunch and try and sort it myself!!!

The lads in the workshop won't mind, its not their car!!!

I can't think but doesn't that light only normally pop on when you open the door following the key removal? I'm trying in vain to think how mine has worked for the last 36 odd months!

Does it stay on after unlocking for about 20 seconds or so, UNLESS you start the car in which case it does it's fading out routine? I dunno what else to say because it sounds right weird!

Yeah it'll pop on when you open the door, but it also turns on after you pull the key out of the ignition, also turn off after 20 seconds or so after you get in etc!

Its bugging me cos every other skoda fabia with central locking i've been in (and thats getting to the 100's) that I can remember will do this

Because of the above me thinks itsa programming thing!!!!

Right, after much research and cursing it turns out that the older fabia's do not have this function, i tried several different fabias, looks like the change happened at about 'Y' reg.

Well at least we know now!

I wish the one in my Octy would stay on a few seconds longer - I need to disconnect my phone, put it back in its case, take off glasses and put them back in case, collect any other belong ..... damn it's got dark - better open the door!

Seems correct. My old Fabia 1.4 Comfort on a "Y" plate never turned on it's interior light on key removal either.

Always seemed odd. And it's turning on the red lights on the bottom of both doors even if only one was open.

I honestly can't bloody remember what mine does... But I guess as a last resort I just open the door marginally to get the light on. Doesn't help when its raining though.

Neither did my old Y reg (early Y that is) Tdi Elegance operate the interior light when taking the key out the ignition, and all the Fabias I've been in put both door lights on at the same time (if they're fitted).
