Speaker size - Octavia MK1 front doors.

Featured Replies

Well I have just ordered an Alien tech controller and as I will need to take the door panel off to fit it, I figured it would make sense to replace the standard speakers at the same time since it's a job I have been intending to do for some time now. From searching the forum I have found that the speaker diameter for the front doors is 16.5cm but I gather there can be issues with depth. My question is, if I get a speaker which is too deep, is there any room between the speaker and the door card which would enable me to use a spacing ring between the speaker and the door? Or would this mean that the speaker would foul the card? If this is not possible, does anyone know any brands which will fit comfortably? I was planning on a set of Pioneer components.

Thanks for any help

Phil.

I changed mine recently and there is not a lot of room for a spacer, looked like you could get another 2mm. So instead I went for these Blaupunkt THC 172 component speaker system

As they fit in with no hassle. Only problem I had was I could not get them to work with wiring adaptor so had to remove the original speaker plugs and and replace them. Also the sticky thread above about getting more bass out of your speakers is well worth reading as even with these fitted the sound was pants until I tried it.

Hope this helps

i hellped a friend fit a set of alpine componants type s thay were 16.5cm this was in a mk1 vrs 51 plate to fit them i just took the grill of be carefull when removing the grill so you dont damage the plastic!

I fitted in a set of Infinity 6010cs components, they fitted in fine with the metal spacer supplied

After trying 4 different pairs of speakers, I found a helpful retailer who was happy to order a few different pairs to test if they would fit.

Some of the mainstream manufactures 'custom fit' speakers fit ok, but I wanted something a little better and eventually settled for a set of Exile speakers from Unique in Surrey (www.uniquecarsound.com). These are relatively new make, by a couple of the main designers from Pheonix Gold who left to form their own consultancy. They have a really shallow basket containing neodium magnets, and have a bi-ampable crossover. Really pleased with them - cost was around £200. Hope to do a full write-up of my octavia audio adventure soon.
