drivers door central locking motor

Featured Replies

typical that something goes wrong when you are trying to sell your car:rolleyes:

the drivers door motor appears to be dead,it has been playing up for the last couple of days, only working occasionally off the remote but has now stopped altogether.using either the keyfob or the interior button only locks the other 3 doors and the only way to lock the drivers door is with the key.

any idea how much a new motor is as although it is still under warranty i would rather not have the hassle of taking it back to the dealer as relationships are pretty strained between us and it is a hassle getting in there to them especially seeing as knowing them they will want to keep it for a couple of days:rolleyes:.

come on then, hit me with it,whats the cost:eek:

It might not be the motor, could be a wiring fault in the door (pretty common) it will require diagnosis to confirm the fault.

bugger, does that mean it has to go to the stealers or can it be diagnosed by my local auto electrician.any idea on price if it does turn out to be the motor.

Motor is about £70, but an auto sparky should be able to sort it.

cheers bud.

i have a perfect working door lock if you need it for £50 delivered, they are nearly £100 from dealers including VAT etc

I feel your pain. Mine has gone too- after the snow. My dealer reckons it could be water gotten into the connections of ecu in door. So a quick unplug, clean and plug back together could sort it. Also my drivers door mirror is playing up (heated demist function not working and no matter which side I put the adjust to the passenger mirror moves!!)

My fix was to trade the car in for a new Octavia Mk 2 TDi Vrs (probably a bit more expensive than a new door motor!!). I get my new car in 2 weeks so will just use the key for now.

well doesnt this just take the biscuit, just got back from the stealers who claim that water has got into the drivers door ecu and that i need a new ecu and connections and guess what, yep the warranty wont cover it as they will not pay for anything that is damaged due to corrosion or water damage:mad:

after yet another row with the fool,he is going to have a word with the service manager and see what they can sort out.i cant believe that in 9 months of ownership and 6k miles this thing has been back to the stealers 5 times for work.

oh yes i almost forgot the price of a new ecu is

I would contact Skoda UK about this. It is a known issue - both the loom & the unit were on back order, so there IS a demand for them... wonder why??

My car was out of warranty by 4 months, and the dealer contact MDL (Skoda UK equivalent in Ireland) about it. They got the parts (loom & central convenience unit) FOC, so all I had to do was pay the labour element @ €200 approx. It shouldn't thake any longer than 1.5hrs so I'm told.

well the funny thing now is that it has just started working again:rolleyes:so perhaps the dealers can sod off and i will get my local electrician to try and clean up the connections a bit better and see if it is actually ok after all.i feel like someone is trying to rip me off again:finger:they obviously couldnt have checked it very well could they,i expect they just looked at it and saw it was corroded and thought best change that:rolleyes:

They will be corroded and it will stop working sometime in the near future, get it fixed now, its a well known problem. if you search the forum you will find that its one of the more popular faults reported so its defiantly a design fault and should definitely be paid for by skoda , it will encourage them to redesign the loom and sort the problem, best of luck.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm having the same problem. But my car is 3 years old

Are these connectors in the Door?

Thanks

yes mate the connectors are inside the drivers door.not sure if mine actually got fixed or not because it was sold straight after i picked it up and if i am perfectly honest i have not missed it for a minute:O

it was a lovely easy car to drive but far too many problems for my liking and i will never step inside that particular dealers door again.

Strange - was admiring a Superb the other day - owner told me he had this sort of problem on conveniance unit - and couldn't get a wiring diag - hope he heeded me and came in here.So -is this an octavia problem or a multi range problem - ???

As far as I know, it is a problem that affects all Golf Mk4 platform cars (Audi A3, Golf, Octavia, Leon). Not sure about the Superb.
