Door Handles

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I've got a Silver VRS with rather plasticy looking door handles.. just wondering what's the best way to go in order to get them silver to match the rest of the car?

Can they be removed and painted? Can i easily replace them?

Many Thanks

Chris.

your best option would be to submit them to a professional automotive paint sprayers...

you'll need your paint code (which is on a sticker underneath your boot floor)

i'd recommend you buy a second set of handles (that way you can hand them over to a pro paint shop to body colour them; vagparts.com also do a delocking kit which is an added security feature and looks cool too!)...

Paint shops have a tendancy to charge quite a bit for a small job (like door handles)... i may also recommend getting your side strips sprayed body colour too... (the paint shop is more likely to do it all for about

I have chrome covers from Butts of Bawtry (Milotec). Heres a pic of them:

I bought some chromed handle covers off a guy on here & colour coded them in Black Magic.

Look really nice.

Cheers guys... that's some food for thought i reckon.

I was quoted £80 by my local bodyshop to get my handles coded and rubbing strips removed

Do them yourself!!! Only cost £20 max.

I'd be inclined to do as above and buy some new parts in and do them yourself. Sand them down, prime then paint.

Handles do seem fairly pricey though - I was about to get some when I sold the Ibiza. They were around £22 each....

Rubbing strips tend to be more reasonable. The 3dr kit I bought for the Ibiza (and still have in the garage) was £15 complete.

Funk...

Yeah, that was actually from VW as that's my closest VAG dealer and the ones for Polo 9N/Ibiza Mk4 and Fabia are the same.

So you can goto a Skoda, Seat or VW dealer.

Cheers mate.. will see what they say!

Any idea how hard they are to replace?

Personally, I would use paint supplied by a professional automotive paint shop. In fact, that's what I did use.

If painted correctly (a few coats of primer, a few coats of top coat & a few coats of laquer) & then left to harden, then it will last for a fair old time.

And if you just say you have a 5dr 03-plate Polo or something, that's far easier than admitting they're for a Skoda, and a possible discussion over whether they'll fit or not!

Lol, do you encounter anti Skoda paintshops on a regular basis?

Thanks for all of the info guys, you've been most helpful!

Nah, this is at the dealers mate! Some VAG parts people would swear blind that components aren't shared across the VAG family companies!
