Featured Replies

right! tryed to order a piper fast road cam today. and failed!!!:thumbdwn:

the bloke on the phone said something about the engine being a "baby aee" (i think he ment the 75bhp vertion) and he could only get a cam for the "big boy" i think vw did a 100bhp aee, not sure, maybe someone could educate me??

are the two engines mechanicly, the same??? what i'm trying to say is. do the extra 25bhp come from the ecu? or are the two engines slightly differant in some way????

if i order the cam for the 100bhp aee. will it fit/run well in my "baby" aee??????

can someone please help me!!! this is driving me to the brink of bying a lada:eek:

"baby aee"?

engine code AEE? 1.6 8v?

a 100bhp 1.6 8v will be a different engine code.

"baby aee" is what the bloke on the phone was calling it, cuz its only a 55kw?????

i'm all disconbobulated. i thourght an aee was an aee???????????/

it is, VW did however do a 100bhp version of the 1.6 from what I remember.

there is a 100bhp 1.6 8v with the code AKL iirc which was based on the 827 series block, but it is totally different, it has bigger bores and a shorter stroke, the cylinder head is totally different and the cams wont interchange.

there have been slight variations of the aee engine, but the differences in these are only in the oil pump/drive, but the cams/clinder head remains the same.... the 1.0, 1.4 and 1.6 polo engines all have very similar cylinder heads, the only difference is the shape of the combustion chamber, and the cams are totally interchangeable between engines(except 1.0 with AHT engine code)

what is the part number of the cam you tried to order??

can someone please help me!!! this is driving me to the brink of bying a lada:eek:

Its tempting....

got to go mate, be back later.

right i've had a quick gander.

it's listed as 254degrees, 17-57 57-17, 110deg for the 1400cc polo/golf engine..

that is perfect for fast road, and it will fit your engine....

make sure when you fit a new cam you put new hydraulic lifters in too otherwise the old lifters will wreck the new cam

Ok Tom, what power gain would you expect from this setup?

swings and rounabouts!!!

you loose a little here, you gain a little there!! i'd expect to see a 10% gain in peak ouput at the cost of less torque lower down the rev range

the chap at performance center is getting back to me on monday to confirm the order.

but i might phone piper at lunch time in monday to see about a custom grind. (they wern't open on sat)

they will do a custom grind, but only if the blanks are available.. to be honest you're probably better off just choosing the ones they have to offer.... my advice is go for the mildest one they make
