Ecu

Featured Replies

Lads,

I was on a few weeks back with Lambda Probes replacement and a few other problems with my car and the Engine Management Light coming on.

Well I still have a problem. My light is still coming on and my fans are still running constantly. I have had the temperature sensors replaced numerous times and it isn't solving the problem. I have now been told I may have a faulty ECU which will need to be repaired or replaced. Any idea how much one of these would cost for a 2001 OCTAVIA 1.6?

Does all this sound right or has anyone any other suggestions?

Cheers.

AEE engine? Around £240.

What's AEE engine?

Would ECU's become faulty after a while? Is it a common occurance?

AEE is an engine code for a variant of the 1.6 engine. The code for yours can be found inside the front cover of the Service Schedule, on the sticker under the boot mat, stamped on the engine block, and in the UK Registration Certificate where it is the first 3 letters of the engine number.

It seems to be AVU engine. Would ECU's become faulty after a while and is it a common occurance?

An ECU for the AVU is a lot more, ie circa £433. Given that price, I would want to be certain that the ECU was faulty before paying for a replacement. We don't see many reports of faulty engine ECUs by Briskod amembers, so it isn't common.

Has the car been checked using a dealer's diagnostic equipment?

It has been connected to a BOSCH diagnostic computer and everytime brings up a faulty temperature sensor this has been replaced numerous times and it stops the problem for about 70miles maximum and then comes back up again although one time the fault with the fans kicked in again after 20mins driving about 15miles!!
