Calling Pioneer DEH P77MP owners

Featured Replies

Folks,

Looking at buying a MP3 playing HU for my Octy and the Pioneer P77MP is on the short list - seen it in the flesh in Halfords (very stylish) at

Andy,

The DEH-P77MP is actually a very dark sort of brown colour in the flesh. The button illumination is not an in your face bright at night and im my opinion is one of the best audio units around for that sort of money. The illumination is all white and looks very nice. I have installed this is to a few cars now and it looks great in whatever I have done. Looks nice in a TT and did a Focus the other day. All of our stores keep this unit in stock if you want to have a look at it. Other units which also be worth looking at are the new Clarion range, especially the new DXZ748RMP and certainly the new amazing spec DXZ948RMP (I have one in stock and it will be going into my Octy for 'evaluation'!!!) Or we are doing a great deal on the 'outgoing' DXZ738RMP at

Alpine..!!! Alpine..!!! Alpine..!!! Alpine..!!!

cant say any more...

Andrew, I hate to disagree with Andy, but I *did* find it overly bright. It's a bright white light as Andy mentioned, can be rather distracting.

On the plus side, if you flip the display down (so you can change cds), then the lights go off as the fascia is no longer powered and you get a very colour-coordinated green cd locator kind of small strip that matches the fabia dash illumination perfectly :D

There is the dimmer function, but that only dims (slightly) the LCD display - the illumination of the buttons at the bottom and the two "halos" either side remain rather, well, bright :)

However, I've modded my fascia: taken it apart and dimmed the brightness somewhat by covering up the little bright blighters. To do it properly, I'd want to put some dark green film over it so it displays green instead of white. Some other people decided to paint / cover the buttons themselves.

But don't let that put you off - it's a stonking hu and is very good on the sq side for the price. Some very knowledgable people regard it just about as good on the SQ side as a

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Andy, I've had a look at "your" site .... lots of good stuff - not helping me narrow my choice.

Tim, I know what you mean in terms of SQ but Alpine HU's are too flashy for my conservative tastes.

Xavier, Not sure I'd want to start taking a brand new one to pieces - how easy is it? It would be good to match the rest of the dash illumination.

Cheers,

I know that Alpine make some good units, especially stuff like the CDA-9812/3/5, but I feel that a lot of people buy Alpine just because its the 'best' brand. I have many customers who buy Alpine just because they 'have to'. Most people, probably something like 7 or 8 out of 10 have no idea how half of the functions work, so most Alpine units goto 'waste' in customers cars. I have used many Alpine units and once set up they work very well.

If you are going to use an Alpine unit to its full potential then have a look at the CDA-9813R, this is available in dual illumination (Green/orange) and is a very nice unit.

If you want your plain and simple with good SQ then I have sold a large amount of 77MPs. There is also a new 'higher' version due out called the DEH-P80MP but with a retail of approx

PS - Xavier, perhaps because I have a 77MP in my display cabinet it doesn't appear 'that' bright !! I haven't put one in my car so I suppose thats why it doesn't look that bright on display !! I might turn off all my display cabinet lights and have a look tomorrow ! I shall also be taking out the horrible Kenwood from my car and putting something else in instead, just until I get my new demo Pioneer AVIC X1 screen.

Yes, but rather than being a fixed percentage it's per enquiry as with some stuff better deals can be worked than with others... :)
