Think I may have a leak?!

Featured Replies

I just noticed that there are splashes of liquid which are visible through the grills on the drivers side of the bumper (it's a VRS). I guess this is where the intake is for the intercooler. It doesn't appear to be oil, but I don't think it's water either! I'm wondering if it's coolant, although the level of pink stuff (technical term!) seems ok. I've also noticed that the undertray is damp on this side of the car too. There is something poking through a whole in the tray (drivers side) which was covered in oil.

I've had a look under the bonnet and can't see any signs of a leak. Whatever it is, appears to be confined to the space behind the bumper (in front of the drivers side front wheel).

Anyone got an ideas what it might be? Should I be worried?!

The item poking through the hole is the lower intercooler pipe, oil is quite normal on it.

the liquid coming outr of the bumper may just be collected rain water seeping out

Fingers crossed it's nothing serious then! I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. Thanks.

I've had another look at this today, and there is still spots of liquid behind the bumper (visible between the black strips in the bumper). Therefore it can't be water as it would have evaporated by now. I'm wondering if it's oil that was spilt during an oil change. Where abouts is the oil filter on these engines? I'm doing to dry the area as much as possible and see what happens.

Can someone do me a favour and see if there is anything similar on their VRS? Thanks.

Ok i don't know if this is any help..........

When i had the Polo GTI i noticed that i seemed to have a leak that looked to come from the front bumper. I tried looking but couldn't find anything obvious..... Untill i noticed the washer fluid running out quicker than normal. Turned out it was one of the headlight washers that was leaking and the water was running into the bumper and out underneath.

Now obviously if you don't have xenons then this won't apply...... But thought it was worth a try.

Cheers

Dave.

Thanks. I don't have xenons so I guess it won't be that. I had another go at cleaning off the liquid last night - it was a right bugger to get to! I'm going to keep an eye on it and see if any re-appears.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just keep an eye on oil/coolant levels and drive normally, expect there's nothing to worry about.
