Drop Links Need Replacing - Advice?

Featured Replies

I have a 1.4 MPI 2000 model - Whenever I o over bumps I hear a knocking noise.

This I believe is common and is related to the bushes - ARB bar ...?

A garage told me that it was the droplinks - I m not sure how to describe them except thats what they are called -

My question is where can these be bought (part number?), are they difficult to fit (how many hours), and do they need changing (Will it damage the car if the dont get done).

I can live the knocking but if its simple to fix I ll go for it

Also are the drop links different from the anti roll bar?

I had the same problem with mine, i got the front drop links/anti-roll bar (whatever they decided to call them) and the knocking dissapeared!

Either the drop links of the collars have come off the bar.

Can you leave it? What along with the PAS that doesnt work and the noisy wheel bearing?

Lumox,

You d actually be pleasantly suprised by my car - Its a 2000 model and done 30 K miles - The paintwork and interior are immaculate - Its just the pesky PAS and drop links (I think), that now needs replacing

This car is costing me a fortune!

If it's the drop links they are a piece of p!ss to do. :D

If it's the front ARB then that's a little more involved but depending on your competency and what tools and equipment you have available easy enough. :)

There's a guide somewhere on here about replacing the front ARB.

The guide is linked very kindly in post #5

I had a knocking coming from the near-side front on my VRS. When looked at, the dealer said it was the drop links (or bushes connected to... I can't remember exactly) which were then replaced... but I still have a knocking which is when I go over any bums or corner slowly (and, at times, when I change gear/bring the clutch back up!!!) it does seem to be more frequent, AND now started on the other side!!!

Another trip to the dealer...

ps. the guy I spoke to originally said that he thought it would be the bushes that the anti-roll bar fits into - which was a common fault up to 2004, when the construction was changed and bushes were fixed to the end of the bar!!! It wasn't according to the mechanic though.

Should have been 'bumps'... I don't really run the local bums over, though that wouldn't be such a bad thing...
