Fitting Stereo

Featured Replies

Hi,

I attempted to fit my Kenwood stereo in my vRS tonight but had to abort. I managed to connect it up and get it working on an aux connection from my TomTom that I can play iPod via. I found a route that I can use from the centre console so the cable runs upto my TomTom on the very right of the windscreen.

I've had a search on the forums already but I have the following questions:-

  1. Do I need to use the metal cage to properly mount the Kenwood unit above the tray? If so how do I get it to fit?
  2. I managed to scratch the rear heater button when trying to fit the metal cage. How much do these tend to cost, and can I just pop that out and another in?
  3. The arial connector on my Kenwood won't fit with the Fabia's. Will an antenna amplifier adaptor allow them to connect?
  4. What's the best way to clean the seats? I got blood from my finger on the passenger side! :finger: I sponged it out I think, but won't be able to tell until dry.

I was going to just wire it in and use it purely for iPod until I got the right aerial adaptor, but I couldn't get the stereo in properly, so I decided to put the standard Symphony one back in for now.

Cheers!

Answers as follows:

1: Yes, but it's a b4st4rd to get in. I had to shave off some of the plastic that the tray sits on with a sharp chisel. It stops the tray sliding in otherwise as it sticks up. You'll see where the tray has caught when you shine a torch in there.

2: Dunno, but I doubt it's a lot.

3. You need the adapter. Luckily I had one that I'd never used. It came with the Kenwood.

4. Do a search. I used Autoglym Interior upholstery cleaner and it's 'ok' but could be better. I imagine 1001 does a good job. ;)

Thanks for your advice. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I tend to be ok at doing these things and often get everything to work, I just end up scratching things a bit on my first attempt.:(

1) yup, as Chrispy already said, you must shave some of the tray off to allow the cage to fit in. Although, I did not have to modify my cupholder when that was put in so I suspect it is just a problem with the trays unfortunatly.

2) Try a scrappy

3) Might be another connector in the box with your radio, took me a while to sus it out but its like a bullet shape.

4) I used car plan upholstry cleaner - until I got some "Bissel" stuff which is probably the same but worked a treat. Simply spray, rub then wipe. Not sure about blood though.
