Electric window problems

Featured Replies

Put front pas window down this morning to clear condensation, but when i went to put it back up, it got half way and then stopped. I tried a couple of times, but it just made a grating sound, like someone trying to file glass.

I have read some previous posts about this problem, but was wondering if anyone would be able to diagnose the problem, i.e. broken regulator, window out of runners etc, as i don't want to go to the dealers and pay

Sounds like it will need a new regulator.

And £45 p/h is pretty darn cheap £95 plus VAT p/h here.

Sounds like the regulator. Window regulator assembly cost me €120. It's an easy fix, and I managed to replace mine in under half an hour start to finish. Once the door card is off, IIRC it was 6 torx screws to loosen the assembly, and two nuts to remove the glass from the guide. The cable connector can be a bit tricky to remove - you need to slide up plastic clip before disconnecting the loom. The motor then need to be removed from the assembly (3 screws) and fitted to the new assembly.

Make sure to be careful with the foam membrane (i.e. leave it adhered at the bottom of the door if possible, as chances are your carpets will get wet if it's not sealed correctly. I cut mine with a knife from top to bottom, and used insulating tape on the inside when finished.

Cheers

I wasn't sure whether or not to attempt to fix it myself or not. I phoned the garage (independent) this morning, but they can't fix it until 17th April at the earliest!!. He did say he could remove the door card and wedge the window closed as a temporary measure, but then i could do that myself.

Will open it up later and see what greets me.

Fingers crossed it stays dry for another few days!!

I would leave it closed until you get the part. You will only have to take off & replace the door card twice, which was the hardest part of the job for me. If you are worried about the glass slipping, you could run a strip of duct tape over the top of the frame to both sides of the glass. Mine stayed in place without any tape.

I had to replace both the front regulators in mine in the space of two months.

Only getting round to fixing this now as the MOT is due in a week.

Phoned Eurocarparts for a price and they said it would be

I would go with the regulator on its own. I replaced both of the fronts in mine, and in each case the motor was fine, just gummed up a bit after chewing the wire cables.

guess whos got this prob now? :( drivers side, put it down when comin into work tonite grating and weird noises, managed to get it back up eventually.

will it stay up itself or should i jam it till fixed?

only out of warranty 2 weeks :thumbdwn:

Jam it up, if only to be certain it'll not slip back down.

I have the same problem with both my rear windows (see my post under 'My rear door won't open').

I've wedged my glass up inside the door with bits of timber but, to save removing the door card twice, you can fold a couple of bits of cardboard to jam down between the glass (pull it up closed by hand) and the inside top of the card - just mind any big bumps!

Second-hand replacement regulators are about
