Octavia5RS-Flat battery, fan keeps running

Featured Replies

Hi all. I am a new member to the club...

In January 2007 I got a new octavia 5RS and have the following serious problem: For some reason I have found the battery flat in the morning 3 times upt to now and all times the morning after a trip the previous day. In the first 2 times they did not find anything (battery was ok) and preventively changed the radiator-fan

The only thing about using the cigarette lighter socket is that, IIRC, it continues to draw power even with the ignition switched off. I'm not sure if leaving a GPS/Phone plugged into the cigarette lighter overnight would drain the battery but it may be worth considering.

Otherwise, let us know how things go with the replacement fan.

if the fan is running then err.... how can i put this???........ it aint broke....

it's more likely to be a short in the switch(in the radiator) that controlls the cooling fan

it's perfectly normal for the fan to be able to run even when the ignition is turned off, it is controlled by a thermostatic switch

I use my ciggie lighter to maintain power to my camera detector and to charge my bluetooth/mobile/MP3 player and it doesn't even dent the battery's charge overnight or indeed the weekend.

I did not leave the charger plugged during the night, I am thinking that it may be faulty and caused a fuse/relay to go off or something...

I am not sure exactly what they have ordered, the whole radiator fan?, the controler?, I am not sure...

I will let you know it this will fix the problem but to be honest I do not think they have found the root cause of the problem... it is what causes the fan to start off and not the fan itself...

Please do not keep starting threads with the same question. As you have found somone will find you eventually.

ok no probs, I was not sure which one would be right for this kind of question... ;-)

i had a similar problem on mine which delayed pickup by two days. was down to a faulty sensor on the fan but it was picked up by the dignostic computer

Its a few months now that I am using the car with no problem.

The replacement of the fan (including the fan controler unit) seems to have solved the problem.

Happy New Year to you all!
