I fear for my wallet!!!

Featured Replies

For the past three years I've run a standard vrs clocking up 42,000 miles.

Now I'm looking at upgrading the turbo charger, intercooler etc....

Can the current turbo on the 130pd be upgraded internally to a higher spec, rather than paying out good money for a replacement unit?

I've heard of a company called turbodynamics that do this sort of work, normally on the higher spec 150pd turbo and combined manifold. I'd rather get some reliable information together before I go around calling anyone and making myself look like an idiot.

I realise I'll also need to sort out 312 brakes up front, I already have the Jabba ARB.

Des I think your wallet has every right to be worried mate!!!

I can understand the need to upgrade the IC but i wouldn't bother with the turbo at the start. A remap will suffice unless you need far more boost than what the current turbo can offer.

Better brakes are always a good idea though. :D

If I'm gonna upgrade might as well get everything upgraded at once rather than spend more money on a remap, then intercooler, then a hybrid turbo etc, which individually will work out far more expensive.

But the car would need a different map to handle increased boost anyway, surely?

It would, but doing it all at the same time will mean only one modified map needs applying. Rather than going to a standard 'stage 1' remap, then adding some toys, then needing to get it remapped again to take advantage of those toys :)

Ahhhhh ok I get you. Nice. :D

Surprised they allow an exchange, for that price you can get a new one from them

I'd sort out handling & brakes first, dunno if the arch venting would be an option for you to avoid using a FMIC, but it's possible I guess :)

With the std turbo you can get 170ish without blasting it to bits, you can get higher but it really is pushing the lifespan of the turbo quite hard.

That said, if you run it very hard for a while and then upgrade to a stage 1 hybrid or stage 2 hybrid (not worth it unless you get injectors too), you may be able to afford it :)

Don't know if you remember many of the Golf mk2 boys were welding in the vents from a VW transporter into their front wings, wonder if this is also an option, as well as the arch vent?
