Urgent: what can be easily stolen from a Vrs?

Featured Replies

My car finally got to Portugal. Now they're going to send it in a ship to my place.

The problem is (as weird as you may find it) all these cr***y transport companies let their employees and others steal whatever they can from the cars. Original carpets, cool gearknobs, jacks... whatever they can take out of the car.

I went to the dealer and already took this: all the carpets, cigarrette lighter and the plastic box containing the jack and accessories from the trunk.

My question is: what else is easily removable from the car that can be stolen?

I now thought of the rear seat's head support and the gearknob. I couldn't take the gearknob out, if it's hard they won't take it either, but I completely forgot the rear seat. I can only go back there tomorrow, 'cause afterwards I'll fly back home and won't see the car before it arrives in the boat.

Thanks for any help

Anything given enough time.

I've got a PD engine out in under 45 mins before...lol

Well it's not that bad. They do have to put the car into and out of the boat...

I think their limit is the reserve wheel in the trunk. I seriously thought of bringing it with me in the plane, but then I'd have to pay a penalty for exceeding my luggage weight limit

Is it not travelling in its own container.

i've taken the engine out of a corsa in about 20 miniutes before at the scrapyard using just a crowbar and a hacksaw

edit: when i say taken, that is a bit of a strong way of describing it really, it was more like "it fell out guv"

Yeah but on mine everything bar the block and head needs to be refitted ;)

empty the spare wheel well, as there is a toolkit, the towing eye, and the locking wheelnut key.

Take out the Skoda folder with all the books in, the head rests.

Thats all I can think of at present.

No, I don't think they put it in a container. And even if they did, they'd steal those things anyway.

My main worry is for the gearknob and rear seat (the head supporters). Is there a way to take them off without having to much trouble?

I took the whole plastic box out. Only the spare wheel itself is left, and the trunk's cover, on which we put the luggage.

I took them as well, only forgot the head rests, but I'll get those tomorrow

Wipers? Headunit? Parcel Shelf? Light Bulbs? Fog lights maybe? Filter? Skoda badges.. :D they're like gold dust! erm... thats all i can think of atm.

Engine cover.

Might have been less stress to just have gone and fetched it yourself

Dont the shippers provide insurance ?

Get the digital camera out and take pictures of how you left it, inside and out. Just incase.

Yeah. Bill the shipping company! That's a bloody ridiculous scenario to find yourself in

if it was shipped in a container then it would be sealed from source and you could see if anyone has tampered with it. however i doubt it would be containerised - although i'm still surprised at what i see in them.

containers of PS3's anyone? or a rusting Ford Escort Estate 1.6?

p.s. i work at a container terminal

Thanks for your opinions, it's done. I've finally seen my black beauty - it is a really nice car. Beautiful in black. It's only got a couple of beer stains they will wash before shipping, and a cracked fog light they'll replace.

The only thing left is the spare wheel and headrests, but they won't be a problem, no one will take that.

It is the only way to take the car to Madeira island, the insurance is very basic, and only a few companies make a complete list of the accessories. I could only get the car myself if I owned a boat

They had also brought in the truck from Germany a huge Volvo jeep, a BMW1 and a Porsche Boxster S. But my furby was the star... :D
