Oil Sensor Issues

Featured Replies

Hi bought a Fabia Y reg 1.4 54000miles in January 2007.

In first month, oil sensor was beeping all the time - took into garage, sensor was replaced - no problem.

1 month later, same thing happens, also notice water loss and emulsification of oil on cap - took in to get sorted.

Water pump was replaced after apparently 'spewing out gunk' all over engine.

Watched for 1 month, water and oil now fine, but my annoying friend known as the oil sensor begins singing again!

Taking back in on Thursday - anything garage could be missing / or that I should be looking out for?

Note: the sensor will not come on when engine first starts, only when I begin to rev.

Thanks all.

Begs the question is the oil pressure ok?

I am not loosing any oil and surely if the oil pressure was low then this would be sensed upon ignition?

Cars are not my field at all - please be gracious of my ignorance!

Another problem is that brakes squeak a lot at the moment - is there any way that this could be related?

What sort ofdriving do you do?

if you just drive aroundtown then you may find emulsificationon the oil cap as the car is not fully heating up and there is condensation mixing withoil. If this is the case I would suggest either a good run oce a week or even better regular oil change every 3000 miles.

I cannotbelieve squeaking brkes are linked to oil pressure.

I think you could have an oil pressureproblem. If oil is to mark on dipstick and you get a bleep then your oil pressure is low.Do you have any othernoisesfromcar, grumbling from bottom of engine etc?

It takes 10 mins for a garage to hook up an oil pressure gauge, i'd be doing that rather sharpish.

Driving around town is what we use the car for. There is no emulsification on oil cap. Car is going in on Wednesday to garage where I purchased from. Ill suggest for it to be checked out with oil pressure gauge.

If there was too much oil, for instance, would the sensor alert me?

For water to mix with the oil and make that mess, could it be the head gasket.

Hello :) I'm not a car person either, so when the oil light stayed on, I put more oil in it... then had to have it drained off fairly promptly LOL. (I didn't know about possibly faulty sensor at the time.) As Lummox says though, the dipstick would show if too much anyway.

Not much help, more cautionary not to be a dipstick like me and whack more oil in

Regards

Mo

I took the car in to the garage, they have replaced the oil sensor and the connector to the sensor - all seems to be fine - for now!

Thats the second time in 4 months that it has had to be replaced.

Must be a common problem on this model of Fabia as I have seen multiple posts on here about the oil sensor.
