Good Economy...

Featured Replies

Had a 500 mile trip around, and back from the South East (cruise at 70 down the M4, then quick country lanes, so not exactly driving like a granny) over the past two days, and was amazed to this average:

What was the actual figure?

Computer is a guide, but tends to be a bit optimistic.

Fill up to fill up is more accurate, especially over a few tankfuls.

OMG, i need a diesel.

Now I'm running my old map along with a fuelling+ camshaft, my average has dropped to low 40s :D Also, the lpg needs some re-modelling, so it's not helping me out at the moment.

I have seen 65mpg with lpg on and a good slowish motorway run, but never 70+. I think my choice of wheels and tyres doesn't help me.

I don't think it's that optimistic though. I find it to be only about 7% optimistic so thats still Very good going.

After my 10k service I have noticed a increase in MPG. also could be the warmer weather.

I'm glad it doesn't have the thirsty drinking habit of a hot hatch!

working out, it's about 56 :)

still running in!

Blimey, your computer really is miles out. I found my Fabia one accurate to 1mpg, and the Passat can be up to 4mpg out... but 15mpg out is miles!!!

Well done,it's more economical than mine.

Commuting between Nottingham + Leicester I get 43-45 mpg.On a long run with the cruise control set to 70mph the best I've seen was 55mpg.That's running on Shell Diesel Extra with Millers Power Sport Plus potion squirted in for good measure.

i got 57 mpg average cruising home from my parents on Sunday night , i was making good progress , except for the 40mph roadworks on the M6 , but that nudges it up anyway

mine averaged 50.9 today... over about 140 miles... was quite happy with that :)

In the 20k miles we have done in last 16 months average of 50.8 MPG.

Range has been 47 to 56. Generally this has been improving over time with high 40's best over first few thousand.

This is brimming tank each time and recording milage and entering in speadsheet.

Computer adds about 10 MPG so dont use it. I cant believe how inaccurate it is.

As a point of reference here are some other cars me & the wife have owned. Figures all from my trusty spreadsheet. (but BMW computer was always only 1 MPG out so far better accuracy)

SportKA (1.6 8v) - 37.9 MPG

Polo GTI (1.6 16v) - 40.4 MPG

Fiesta Ghia X ( 1.4 16v) - 40.6 MPG

309 GTI - 30.4 MPG

E30 M3 - 25.7 MPG

Impreza P1 - 22.7 MPG ( on Super only)

306 GTI-6 - 29.7 MPG

328 BMW E36 - 25.2 MPG

So given the performance of the Fabia VRS pretty happy with MPG/Cost per Mile.

Computer adds about 10 MPG so dont use it. I cant believe how inaccurate it is.

it seems to be different from car to car ,the computer on my 04 VRS it pretty accurate and so was the one on my brothers 04 Elegance , but his new 56 VRS is pretty inaccurate
