VRS TDi

Featured Replies

I am still enjoying my new vRS TDi (I actualy think it is quicker, when in gear, than my previous mk 1 vRS).

I have one question though:

Does it have a torque/power limiter when in first gear. I ask this because the accerleration in 2nd seems far better than that in first and I was wondering if they limited the torque to prevent damaging the clutch etc.

It may well be down to traction control keeping the front wheels in check.

Don't think so; I've certainly not read about it in any brochure/road test. As Stu says ESP/traction control effect perhaps.

In my vRS TDI; I'm using 1st only to get moving, then short shifting to 2nd and then riding on the tsunami of torque!:D

Cheers for the replies.

I do not think it is the traction control since I do not get the little amber light up on the dashboard (always a fun challenge to see how often I can get it flashing!!!)

Have been a petrolhead all my life I am going to have to learn how to get the best from this new fangled diesel stuff!!!!

On the plus side I intend to have a great deal of fun learning the best driving style:) :) .

Good job I have gone for the fixed price maintenance and tyres options as I think I could be going through a few sets and the 18" wheels are not that cheap.

I had wondered the same about limited torque in 1st gear. I had it on an old R21 Turbo and it worked a treat, no wheeelspin in 1st, then hold on once you were in 2nd.

I would be amazed if it wasn't limited. In the road tests I have read they talk of turbo lag in 1st, but it didn't feel like lag to me on my test drive. Time will tell though.
