safe re-map

Featured Replies

just wondering what is a safe re-map figure without messing my clutch up? i dont want anything to mad? you all seem to be running 180bhp average which surely messes your clutch!

160-170 bhp...

Think the Revo remap gets it to 170bhp and ???lb ft and this still causes the clutch/flywheel vibration at low revs...

mmm If it were me, I'd be tempted by superchips 165bhp map... the give a garuntee for everything effected! (bargin) ...

I wonder how long that guarantee lasts for though ?

all i want is that little more power to wind up even more all the local barry boys! :)

i think 165bhp will make a difference but all the sites iv checked tend to say 175bhp plus.

Remember, it's not the power that kills the clutch, it's the torque.

So, conversely, you may get a "high power" map that's low on torque compared to a lower bhp map may have more torque and strain the clutch.

Probably the safest / most reliable / guaranteeable remap would be a custom one with one of the tuners that offer it. That way you can have it "customised" so you have a very smooth and potentially held-back torque value and trade it off against power. :)

edit, on second thoughts, just get a manic torque map and change the clutch :D HTH

Limit torque to somewhere under 280LBFT. I think I asked for 270LBFT on mine.

You can "help" the engine along the way by doing the downpipe and the air filter and PD160 intake pipe which will improve breathing.

PS: I haven't decatted or done any "zorst" mods.

Ask any remapped fabia vrs owner and i am sure you will find its not standing starts that kills the clutch on these cars. Try 6th gear acceleration at low speeds this does the damage when the torque overcomes the clutch.

Remaps are not each TUV approved, perhaps your equipment is TUV but it would cost thousands to approve each map so true custom mapping is not TUV approved.

Also, have a look at the advertising pages.

I think the Guarantee lasts whilst the car is in Warranty, They will mend/fix anything caused by the re-map [ I think but not 100% so check ] Then out of warranty you can take out Insurance provided by Firebond

Of course its the torque on the clutch plates that kill it!!!!! I think people will see that a standing start is pretty much the same as a 6th gear low speed full load roll on in terms of torque forces on the clutch plates.

Two things to worry about. Torque will kill your DMF and clutch if excessive. I would take an educated guess that 280lb/ft limit would give hassle free running on a good condition transmission. Torque on the PD engine is all in the midband, power is a result of how much air you can shove through at higher engine speeds. My guess is that if you are really reckless, you could go close to 200bhp, but that could wreck the turbo pretty quickly. Custom mappers seem to offer around 175 - 185 bhp.

Even a tuning box will fry your clutch if you don't drive accordingly - the tolerances are pretty tight unfortunately.
