Air con pump venting fluid

Featured Replies

Somethings up!

It's the first time i've really used the air conditioning.

When i stopped in traffic that were bursts of vapour from under the bonnet!

It sounded like the noise a soda stream makes when a bottle is fully gassed.

It seems to be coming fom the air con pump maybe a pressure relief valve?

If i switch off the air con it stops. The air con radiator is too hot to touch but the cooling fans are off.

Fuses are all ok so when do the fans kick in?

Anyone else had this?

Nick.

the fans should be on all the time the air-con is on

How bad were the bursts of vapour?

Is the rad hot at the top and cold at the bottom?

I wouldn't think the pump has a PRV unless there is an emergency one somewhere.

If the fluid is leaking out, you would have less and less cold from the vents.

A few seconds after the button is pressed, the fans will start.

My radiator gets hot when it's on, the fans will stop when you switch the aircon off, unless the car is hot in which case they will run at a faster speed.

I thought the fans will switch off when at speed or the air flow through the front will be messed up as the fans are trying to draw air at a different speed to that which is coming through the front at say 80mph.

The fans don't come one at all.

We have 2 VRSs here (company cars) the other car starts the fans as soon as the aircon button is pressed.

It does look like a PRV on the pump.

It only vents in small bursts when the car is stationary & the aircon has been on for a while. If i'm moving so there is a reasonable airflow through the radiator things are fine.

The car has never overheated so i assume there is more that on controll point for the radiator fans.

Back to the dealer!

Thanks for your comments.
