Screw Head Help

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me what 'screw head' this is on my TEFAL iron and what I need to remove it?. It looks like a Torx bit but with a raised centre to stop idiots like me taking it apart!. Best described as a 'star' with raised centre pin.

Here's a piccy but I'ts pretty useless.....................................

Thanks

If you have a maplins near by, they sell a £9.99 security bits set which has all the bits you could ever want in it. 100 Piece Power Bit Set

I got my set (which I've now lost ) from Screwfix :D

Chris

Maplin do them or you are welcome to bring the iron around and use mine.

I assume you are changing a damaged flex on it?

Steve, I will bring a set to Bury for you if you want.

Indeed I am. Took it to an authorised repairer and they wanted nigh on fifty quid to fit a new flex!

I would like to take you up on that offer if I may, I'm fairly flexible later today or Thursday if it's convenient?.

As for the other replys, many thanks

Just had another look at the picture, how deep is that hole around the screw and roughly how wide.

My set is a hex into a screwdriver security of all types set, but hopefully should fit in the hole above the screw.

Ah, well, I have yet to take a MAF out to discover that ;)

Getting into the iron modding game?!!

Hopefully when you get it open they haven't fitted the cable with some sort of fancy moulding that stops you from easily replacing the cable..

.... Oh god, I can't believe I am discussing the wiring in an iron:rofl:

Careful. If Tefal are reading this it may affect your warranty.

Yes but they can't see the irons serial number :p

On my Tefal Aquaspeed 150, the flex screw is the same as the others, i.e. a sunken hex one. (Yours not just sealant-ed I suppose?)

Anyway, IMO you'd be better off buying a new Rowenta iron (lots of steam) :) Only got my Tefal cos I was desperate at the last minute - I'd happily swap it for a Rowenta at the drop of - well about

It was a T20 security torx, and the flex contains a water and a power lead. the water lead is hidden further into the depths of the iron so it looks like a bit of a pain to change.

Just for future info, Halfords do sell security torx bit sets. Was having a look for a Spline set today and saw them.

If you look at the bolts that hold your seats in, chances are they're spline bolts. I think they're twelve sided and look a bit like torx bolts only with another 6 sides in there.

its a tampertorx screw for a reason, i did the same few years ago trying to save a few quid went to local elec wholesalers, got some flex (foc perks of the job):) rewired it sorted, kerching!

12 months later phone call from jec, iron burst into flames :flame: got home to find jec and kids on back street in tears smoke, firebrigade everywhere ****ing scary. luckily all were ok bit of smoke damage burnt carpet.you can pick up an iron fairly cheap nowadays we got a cordless now.next time i'll get the iron to go with the flex:rolleyes:

Except the five point torx security torx bit's for getting MAF units out

i saw a set of the 5 point Torx tamperproof bits at Halfords today , the only problem was that they were attached to 1/4 drive sockets

to be honest if it uses security sockets, i doubt if it will be done up tight enough to need anything more than 1/4 drive
