vRS oil

Featured Replies

Having noticed my vrs (tfsi) oil level was very low (8500 miles) i dropped in to my local skoda dealer to buy a litre. The service desk guy tried to sell me vw 505/01 saying it was fine for my car! Obvioulsy i had told him it was a petrol and on variable servicing and he still said it was fine to use as a top up. It clearly stated it was for a diesel engine and i decided not to take his advice. Having read the manual now it seems to be very clear on what oil to use for variable service petrol models, 503/00 or 504/00 i think? Was he talking crap? I would expect a skoda service centre to know their stuff on something like this.

I would trust the manual more than the service desk guy.

I went into a dealers and asked at the service desk for the cargo net for the boot of my Octy vRS and was told that it didnt fit in the hatchback only the estate:eek:

Went 5 miles up the road to a different dealership and got a "no problem sir we have one in stock actually"

What i can tell you is that My vRS is on variable servicing too and i use castrol edge 5w/30 which is the correct 504/00 for the car.

Dont quote me but I dont think the diesel specific oil would do any harm but i still wouldnt put in anything other than oil that meets the VW 503/00 or 504/00 spec:thumbup:

I believe that for topping up you are ok to use up to 1L of non variable oil, however using the variable oil won't shorten your service interval.

If you have to top up and it's the only oil then IMHO any oil is better than no oil, esp if it is the stuff for other petrol/diesel cars from the same group, but if you have time to go buy the oil then the stuff in your book is the right stuff.

For a VRS i would always use VW 504, except in an emergency where you can't get hold of the correct oil.

For what it is worth i keep a litre pack of the correct oil in the car just in case I ever find myself in one of those situations.

Snap.

Another for Castrol Edge 5W-30 here too. Get used to topping her up as the TFSI is renowned for fairly heavy use of the brown stuff (it ain't cheap either!).

Millers do a VW 504/507 oil; at £38 for 5L.

That's a lot cheaper than £42 for 4L that most places charge for the edge, or the £15.99 charged for a 1L tin

Picked up some castrol 5w-30 from a vw garage yesterday.

I have a 1L bottle in the boot near the CD changer - Fits perfectly.

Got mine from my dealer ;) came in a case with velcro hooks so sticks to the carpet next to the CD changer.

I too have got a one litre top up bottle, bought when I picked the car up after reading about the heavy oil consumption of the vRS. Checked it today and hardly used any oil at all, and as I'm on a slight slope it might still be about full :).

Only thing is my dealer supplied Mobile 1 not Castrol but he assured me when I bought it was the correct oil, just checked it and it says 505 - 506, is it the correct oil? Could someone please confirm if its ok or not. Thanks.

503/504 on variable service. Not sure for fixed service. If i recall i think its on page 250 in the manual.

 always forget the manual. I'm on variable btw.

*Runs off to check the manual* :o

Edit :- Right, it appears the dealership gave me the oil for the diesel engine, you'd have though the supplying dealer would have known its a petrol engine.

I think I'm going to be popping over there on Tuesday and having a word. Lucky I haven't used it or opened it yet.

Skoda seem to be quite strict with using the correct oil. If you are on variable then it must be 503 or 504. As i said i got my 504 from a vw dealer and even they were a bit unsure but seemed a bit wiser than the guy at skoda. I will be slightly cautious when my car goes for its first service based on this.

I got some of that today to keep in the boot. Took 9k to get through the last one...

When the PD first appeared all the VAG franchises were in a muddle over the correct oil. Check the handbook.

Opie Oils are currently offering a special discount on long life oil for your Octavia free shipment over £35.

Ordered mine today and got e-mail this afternoon saying order shipped, just like my first order so you can not beat that for service, only trouble is I shall have to wait in tomorrow.

Millers oils option seems to be this one (copied from their website;-

Millers XF LONG LIFE 0w30

Description

A high performance full synthetic petrol and diesel engine oil.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Application

Suitable for use in petrol and diesel engines as recommended by VAG for use with variable service intervals (WIV) and other vehicles that require a fuel efficient lubricant.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

User Benefits

The high quality of this oil means that fuel economy is maximised at the same time as engine wear is being minimised. Oil viscosity or thickness is maintained even under the most severe of operating conditions thereby ensuring maximum engine protection.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Performance Profile

Exceeds the requirements of VW 503.00, 506.00 and 506.01 so is suitable for widespread use in VW petrol and diesel engines as recommended by the manufacturer.

Also exceeds the requirements of ACEA A1B1 and A5B5

However, when I got my car there were promotional bits with the handbook and a sticker on the slam panel under the bonnet for Shell Helix Ultra, which is a 5W-40 oil.

Personally, I like the 0W-30 spec of the Millers and what what I have read it would appear that with these fully synthetic long-life oils they are suitable for both petrol and diesel engines.

Mind you; it might be easier if we all read this 'sticky' thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/what-oils-meets-specs-vw-504-00-507-00-a/55476/ and then we would have nothing left to discuss!

Not much in it, but Opie Oils still has the edge per delivered litre as Miller charges £8.95 for delivery where as Opie's is delivered.

Miller works out at £11.78 per litre delivered based on a 5 litre can.

Opie discounted price works out at £10.69 per litre delivered based on a 4 litre can.

Opie normal price works out at £11.49 per litre delivered based on a 4 litre can.

I can not speak for Miller's delivery service as I have never used it, but Opie has always shipped on the day of order, which is very good service. You pays your money and takes your choice.

For sport engines as TFSI it is strongly recommended 503.01 VAG Norm !

As for the oil, choose MOBIL 1 0W40 and you won't be dissapointed at all !
