Alloy Wheel Cleaner.

Featured Replies

Been using Car Plan Wonder Wheels Super Alloy Wheel Cleaner and just recently I have noticed that it leaves a white residue on the alloys. It does wipe of but it has got me thinking, should I be using it at all. I used it on the wife

Used to use it all the time on my old Octy. But since a car change started using meguires Hot Rims, does just as good a job as wonder wheels but is less acidic.

I use turtle wax extreme wheel cleaner. It's excellent stuff but doesn't seem to go far. :(

Thanks,

Any ideas what the residue might be, it does seem very acidic if you get it in your eye it hurts and if you put it on the ground it fizzes.

It is probably melting the alloys. The wheels are still there i just went to look.

Virasol is a very good product. I had a litre off of my brother in law. It gets mixxed 8-1 with water, in a spray bottle, and really works very well, better than most acidic/alcholi cleaners, but is very gentle, being made from fruit or something. No Idea where to egt it from though!

I use auto glym, for everything, polish, tar remover, excellant product, pricey tho!!!

IIRC the residue is the left overs from phosphoric acid that is in the cleaner.

I know i'm going to get laughed at, but try getting a flower sprayer and spraying coke or diet coke on your wheels before washing them.

Same applies of try to avoid the brakes as it's a bit sticky.

I have to say that after trying their wheel cleaner it is a bit sh*te to say the least.

The wheel brush is excellent though and on 3 for 2 at the moment.

Another vote for Virosol (otherwise known / sold as MC2)

I got some from a commercial place too, but I can't remember where - the Ebay deal doesn't look bad.

When I got mine the postage wasn't much more for 3 * 5 lts, so I got that and sold two on to other Briskodians at a meet - it reduced the cost per item.

Pop into your local Aldi as they are doing a multi purpose cleaner which is Ph neutral and is the same as Virosol well almost the same.

It comes in 5L bottles and you just dilute it 4 to 1 for wheels and 40 to 1 for anything else. It's only

Another vote for virosol here.

Just FYI, when people say it's non acidic, that's true: it's rather alcaline with a pH of 11.4 ;)

I have tried the Muc Off Alloy Wheel Cleaning kit as of late and am very impressed. In my view the best cleaner I have come across so far.

Virasol is a very good product. !

Can I have your virasol then?:D

I've always used Wonderwheels on my last 3 cars with alloys and on SWMBO's car as well, I' never had a white residue before but I am always really careful to thoroughly rinse the wheels off because of the phosphoric acid.

I always do my wheels and tyres in the following order:

1: Rinse loose dust from wheels with water

2: Wonderwheels and thorough rinse

3: Spray tyres with turtlewax wet'n' black or whatever I am using that week.

4: Polish Alloys with Autoglym alloy wheel seal to remove tyre blackener overspray and to repel brake dust.

I use this to, but the ones I used is for cleaning your bike. Also spray a bit into the arch and the mud falls out when the hose is on it :)
