Exhaustpipes vRS TDi

Featured Replies

Hi.

My exhaust-pipes seems to lean a bit down to the left. Is this normal?

Pictures would help

Look at the left side - it seems to lean a bit down.

Or is it the cutout in the bumper goes up? Optical illusion?

No. its not optical ilusion. Its about 0,5 cm lower than the right one. It frustrate me a bit..

Can hardly tell myself

It would irritate me knowing they weren't level.

They certainly look on the skew albeit 5 mm. You need to do a like for like comparison with another vRS to be sure it isn't just the way they are made.

My TDI exhausts aren't straight but it isn't obvious as they point downwards.

I was told that diesel exhausts should always point down or you would get a stain from the cyclonic effect of the escaping gases?

From the above pictures it seems the new VRSTdi exhaust points straight out like it's petrol siblings?

Comments anyone?

I guess that diesel exhausts point down, or at leats used to, so that you don't shower following traffic with soot. :o

The vRS TDI has the (dreaded) particulate filter - so no soot  hence they are able to use a straight exit pipe; just like the TFSI vRS. :D:cool:

Also from a styling point of view there is actually nothing on the car to tell the TFSI from the TDI (just the engine sound/throb). :D:cool:

Do you mean the fact that our cars sound like tractors when idling?

There is no vRS to compare with here as far as i know.. So i have to live with it..

Fabia vRS has straight exit exhaust . . . as does the Leon Cupra TDI, Ibiza Cupra TDI and a host of other cars which don't have DPF's.

On the subject of exhaust tips, when I had mine fitted (same ones as the vRS) I watched closely and got the tech to adjust them to the angle I was after - it would seem there is a degree of movement available when fitting so presuming they're held on by glorified jubilee clips like the aftermarket ones, this might be adjustable?

If it bothers you that much then I'm sure your dealer should be able to realign it fairly easily.

Yes; your quite right; probably a case of style winning over function (for once)!

A few years back I had an Omega Estate TD (with the BMW 6-cyl engine, mmm) and hated the bent exhaust pointing to the tarmac. I cut it off and stuck a Jetex chrome tailpipe on it. Looked good.

PS> back to the point of the thread; I must actually check the alignment on my tailpipes just to be sure they're straight.

Mine's exactly the same

I'm sure it is mostly optical. Mine look pretty much straight and when measured are down on the left by only 0.5mm - not worthy losing sleep over.

If yours are 0.5cm i.e. 5mm out then I'd zip down to my dealer and talk to them to see what can be done.
