Dodgy Fuel?

Featured Replies

Got my 1.8T Elegance serviced in February and continued to used either Tesco or Esso 95 unleaded. Since the service however, I noticed a serious flat spot at 3000 rpm. I thought it was the OE spark plugs put in at the service. I was using Bosch platinums before and never had such a problem.

I filled up with Shell 95 recently and the flat spot has disappeared. The only thing that remains is the hesitation around 2000 rpm.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? I have noticed that with Shell 95 petrol, the car is quicker than with Esso or Tesco 95.

Give it the good stuff (V-power), 'specially if its been fettled with!

I had a similar problem on my elegance, it was a split in the boost pipe. Pipe replaced now no problem.

Thanks for the advice. Will check the boost pipe.

Tried V-Power and it is great. Down in london however it is over

Did a routine check and found that one of the coil packs were not push all the way down. Pushed it down and now the fuel economy has returned to what it was before service.

Would there be any knock on effects of the plugs not getting the full charge?

Doubt it. I would ring your dealer, and let them know of their mistake.

Has the flatspot dissapeared now?

Not entirely. Under full accerleration it hesitates just after 2000 rpm (documented elsewhere in the forum) and a slight hesitation at 3000. The second hesitation is new.
