New Tyre wierd noise

Featured Replies

Afternoon all :)

Had a new tyre fitted yesterday (drivers front) and today it sounds like i have a helicopter down there...(most noticable above 40mph)

...it's definitely not standard road noise, and the pressure is correct.

Any ideas of what this could be?

It's a 'budget' directional tyre by infinity.

Ta,

MPM :)

Proberbly the budget tyre, get the other one changed for a matching sound from each wheel.

Hehe, matching helicopters should make it fly.... :P

If it's the tyre then i'll be taking it back - budget or not it's not acceptable :)

Any more ideas? I just wanted to check i'm not being a nonce & missing something silly...

MPM :D

If it doesnt sound like the wheel bearing, I'd go with the tyre. Different tyres make different sounds depending on the tread pattern.

It's a near identical tread pattern as the other 4 tyres, only difference is, others are Toyos. I've never heard a tyre make that noise, even on a land rover!

I did wonder wether i had a MASSIVE stone in the tread pattern somewhere but it's clear.

I'll roll back into the tyre place in the morning i think & see what they say.

It may not be perfectly round, try putting it on the rear.

Id check to see that all 4 wheel bolts are fully tight - its not unknown for that to happen.

why would you put a cheap tyre on to replace the excellent Toyo ?

if the noise wasn't there before the tyre was fitted , its got to be that causing the noise surely

has it still got the sticker on ? ;)

Haha, i wondered if anyone would ask why not toyo for toyo...

...reason being - i needed a tyre same day, and toyo would have taken a few days, i'm selling car soon anyways so made what could turn out to be a silly descision...

...i suspect it's not perfectly circular.

Stickers are all no more :P

I'll just take left hand bends with more gusto for a while i think to wear it down

...i suspect it's not perfectly circular.

the tyre fitter should of spotted if the tyre was faulty , i.e. deformed

it would of been a pig to balance as well , what sort of weights are on the rim ?

I had mine do this and it turned out it was a wheel bearing, take it back to tyre place first tho and let them chck. I hope it is your tyre tho my wheel bearing went and took ages to get sorted there again i think I got mine from a crap garage not a skoda dealer i may add

Well yesterday it appeared to have shut up, today i'll be pottering around doing things and hanging my head out of the window...

It doesn't go away if i apply the brakes which makes me thing it's not a wheel bearing (although i could be wrong)

MPM :D
