has anybody ever??

Featured Replies

has anybody ever carried an engine in the boot of thier fabia??

i've got to go and collect an engine in a few days and i need to think of some way of putting it in without damaging anything.... i was thinking maybe piece of plywood cut to fit the boot floor then some polythene sheeting to stop the oil getting everywhere:confused:

ideas??

I had one in the boot of my Clio once, suspension didnt like it. Remove the gearbox and that should help make it easier to lift and move about.

oh yeah, should have said... no gearbox on it... just a bare engine with no manifolds or ancilleries

Jason had one in the boot of the mongrel.

Scary thing is that Jon's laptop was in the boot as well........... under the engine

i would take out the spare and pack the wheel well with cardboard and blankets , then the engine can sit in the well , this should stop it from tipping over and also the weight will be lower down

I had an A series one in the back of a BX once... suspension coped not problem.

Suggest a bit it of old thick carpet on the floor/sides and if you can find any some old packing foam blocks around/under it, which will deform a bit under the weight to provide support.

Nor sure how well a furby would take it, I guess that depends on the MLW of the furby, and the weight of the engine.

Sorry that probably isn't much help

the suspension will take the weight no problem, i should imagine the hardest part will be lifting it over the lip of the boot

Oh yeah, i forgot about that/ I just lowered the suspension and didn't have a lip.

The A series is a two/three person lift for a short distance, but I don't fancy hauling a larger engine manually.

I'd throw a bit of old carpet over that and then see if your engine crane will lift it over it.

Failing that find a mate with a BX/Xantia/C5 etc estate or a transit.

getting it out isn't a problem because i have a crane here..... getting it in will be difficult....

i once got stopped bythe police on tower bridge in london when i had a lupo gti engine in the boot... they wanted to search my car... and i told them, if they could get it out they were very welcome!

You getting it from a knackers yard then or somewhere that won't have a crane?

I'd think most breakers have a crane etc that they can dump it in your boot and anywhere that deals with engines would have too.
