'900 Spanner' Service Indicator explanation

Featured Replies

I've been waiting for the service light to come on for a while but had forgotten that there's no actual 'light'. Had I not looked at the dashboard when starting my Octavia mark 2 vRS last night I would not have noticed the spanner symbol.

I don't have my car user manual with me so I wonder if someone could confirm the meaning of the symbol. When I turn the ignition to start the electrics, I am shown '900 Spanner'. After a few seconds this then changes to '286 Spanner' with a clock symbol above it.

Obviously I should book my car in for a servicing as soon as possible but what do the 900 (now 800) and 286 refer to? Is one of these the distance the car can travel before it needs servicing?

900 miles, or 286 day whichever occurs first remaining.
