I only brought my 2001 Octavia TDI Elegance last week (Auction bargain), and already its started making the ticking indicator noise behind the dash, when it randomly wants to.

Theres no illumination (On either the dash or lights) but the ticking is evident.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a hazzard switch to me, plenty on it on the site.

Random ticking, try spraying some electrical contact cleaner through the column shroud at the base of the stalk switch.

Tried the electrical contact cleaner, but no joy. Just brought a hazard switch of Ebay, so fingers crossed.

Ive only had the car a week, and my dad wants to buy it of me!

If you cant fix the ticking sell it to him.

Hope you get it sorted. Read it a few times on here and the hazard switch seems to sort it.
