TDI Engine racing

Featured Replies

Hi, Can anyone help i have a problem with my octy2002 tdi:( , now and again on starting the engine races on starting, the problem seems to clear after i get going:) , is this something to worry about ie the start of something going majorly wrong? Appreciate any help as always. Cheers Rich.

Any sign of it using oil?

Does the throttle always close as fast as you'd like once it's running normally?

Hi Ken,

No the engine isn,t using any oil at all but when i drive off the throttle closes as normal. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers Rich.

I guess it might be worth looking at the EGR and getting it cleaned as there is a butter fly valve in there.

If it isn't that it makes no odds as it will do it a world of good to be cleaned on a 2002 car.

Sure there are some other butterfly valves around, and it might be that carbon deposits are not allowing these to move correctly.

Just a guess mind.

There isnt a throttle on a diesel. It can only be fueling or maybe a boost leak that is causing the idle fluctuations.

If I think about what I wrote though it doesn't really make much sense. I wasn't suggesting the car had a throttle, but more suggesting something like an anti shudder valve etc

I wouldn't think excessive carbon in the intake air supply won't help though as it could make the engine rough.

HI Thanks for all the advice can anyone tell me if it is an easy job for me to clean the EGR or is this a garage job? Cheers Rich

Mbames has done it and getting it cleaned won't do any harm, however Lummox knows a lot more about this engine than myself so I'd go with his advice :)
