I'd want a guarantee on the repair from whichever garage (thinking paintwork really). Many insurers go to independent bodyshops, so you could perhaps try for a couple of alternative quotes? Can't personally see it'd be a problem, provided Skoda identified all the damage. If more becomes apparent once the existing bumper is removed, you're probably a bit in schtuck anyway if you've already accept the

Still sounds like he's got no insurance if he's coughed up the reddies

Totally agree..

I'd still pursue it with the police as they can check the status of the insurance on the car.

the police said that it is no longer a police matter, so looks like they arent interested, they said that they do not have all insurance companies on their database so may not be able to find out

F**king hell!!

This really ****es me off all they need to do is send a PC around and ask to show his docs. If he doesn't have them give him a producer (7 day wonder) and prosecute under that if he doesn't provide.

If they don't follow up then the uninsured have a low risk of getting caught so will keep doing it :(

Sounds like another police force who only fight crime when it's on CCTV, ANPR, or they've got a speed detector on board.

And they wonder why motorists get so ****ed off at being targeted all the time...

Can the guy have a tax disc without insurance, unless some document's been forged or photoshopped?

Nothing to stop you buying insurance, then tax it and then cancel the insurance.

In this case, I think Ruku mentions that the guy said he hadn't had the car long so maybe it came with some tax. The sort of people who would drive without insurance (not that we know this A3 guy is un-insured yet:O)will always find ways to avoid the system.

tbh I'm surprised there aren't more foreign registered cars on our roads, driven by the local population to evade a load of traffic laws.
