Does anyone heel-and-toe their furby?

Featured Replies

Are the pedals in the Fabia vRS friendly towards this or are they spaced as to make it more difficult to do?...After 26 years of driving mostly autobox cars and riding motorbikes, I want to take some professional instruction on heel-and-toeing.

I'd guess having big feet is a point to my advantage?

Bas (heading into senility at a rapid rate...)

i wouldn't think you could do it on the VRS Basil , due to the fact when you press the brake the fuel is cut off whatever you do with the throttle pedal

The brake pedal on mine is a lot higher than the accelerator which could make it difficult (you'd have to be braking quite hard!)

Not that I've ever tried it in any vehicle!

Right - I seem to remember that that's a design built into the drive-by-wire (fly-by-wire if it's a mongrel).

Oh well...

Hmmm - wonder if there's a way to disable it, hehehe

(and if Xav evers mentions the two times I stalled the car with him in it tell him he's fibbing and telling stories again......)

Cheers

This is true

if the fuel cut off the engine would stop:confused:

in fact it's not even possible to cut the fuel off on a pd engine:confused:

the engine management turns the injectors off AFAIK

Tom - quick test to try is sit in the car with it in neutral, build the revs to 3k (or more on a petrol) and hold them there. Now press the brake pedal at the same time and the revs will die off to sit to a few hundred rpm above idle.

I guess you could heel and toe if you were able to confuse the car into not cutting power (varying pressure on the brake pedal?), but ideally you'd only heel and toe under hard braking so the brake pedal is nice and firm for you to roll your foot onto the throttle.

Basil - did you see my post in the Advanced Driving and Racing Techniques forum about how to do it? Might be worth trying it out and seeing how you get on :D

I intend to m8 - as soon as my car actually has a gearbox in it!!!

Fact one - Very true

Fact two - False, fuel quanity is controlled by the ECU, it can stop fuel entering the injector.

haven't you finished that small project yet

iirc that's got somthing to do with the operation of the non-return valve on the brake servo vacuum resoivoir

yes that is true, but i meant if you want it to run;)

The revs holding while the brake pedal is pressed is used for emissions setting and testing during diagnostics.

it doesn't do it when the engine(petrol) is under load tho...

Look on the links somewhere on home page forums, talk about all sorts of advanced driving.. I recently attempting to learn it but mines a lil 1.4 which doesnt really go v fast anyway soo..... its just for fun/situation where breaking harsh is needed. Useful if learnt tho :)

so, can you do it in a Fab Vrs then?

no....

the engine management has been programmed to reduce the power when the brake pedal is pressed.... i suppose it's there to stop people burning thier brake pads out

Just a Question ?? not sure of the answer.

Is there any point in heel - toeing a deseil engine?

I'd like to know as well - I notice that a little blip between changes makes them smoother....

We're talking about heel and toeing here, not left foot braking.

Heel and toe works fine in my vrs, really good for smooth downshifts when braking, it also makes passengers think you're a driving god.

The bit about the revs dying reminded me of Golf (caddy ) programming-annoying after driving through water -so tried it on mine (1.4 TDI) - no effect - tried heel and toe - problem is getting brake pressure right - in that sort of situation brakes seem to get slightly more sensitive and it's a touch difficult to toe and heel.

We're talking about heel and toeing here, not left foot braking.

But if you're braking hard, you won't be able to raise the revs enough as it cuts the power to the throttle. If you're not braking hard, there's not much value in heel 'n' toe (unless you're just doing it to impress passengers :P).
