Buying a Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hello,

Looking to buy a Fabia vRS however I've been adviced to sway towards an older 2003/4 model as after that Skoda began to cut corners?

Also is there anything else I should be looking out for i.e. cambelt etc?

Thanks

i have had 3 fabia vrs just got my se yesterday and i don't think this is true as i had my first 04 replaced at 11 months old due to the shear amount of serious faults on it also in the earlier ones they fit the wrong gearbox or so i am told. Can't see any real difference in build quality between any of the ones i have had .

Yeah, I'm just worried because this will be my first car so I want to get it spot on! What should I look for in a vRS? We have a good local guy who sources cars based on what we are looking for i.e. mileage etc... so my question is,

What should I write on the list for him to look for in terms of mileage, age, extras (xenons, esp) etc?

Thanks

I can't see why you would be directed to buy an early model to avoid 'cutting corners' unless it was by the person selling it.

Actually on the later cars there were some nice little revisions. It all really dpends on your budget.

Generaly when buying cars it's better to get a later model, as these have faults sorted that we found in the first couple of years. However in the case of the VRS, probably the best models are 2005. These cars will have any faults sorted and will have the Euro 3 engine. 2006 cars should be built just as well, but will almost certainly come with the euro 4 engine and therefore the dreaded stutter.

but don't be put off by the stutter :)

That's one of the things I'm worried about after reading around :S. Do they all come with xenons/esp as standard?

You might find one with these on. Originally they were options. They dont make the Fabia Mk1 anymore now as you probably know. Good luck at finding one. You will not be disappointed!! 2nd hand values are going up too!!

here here the stutter on mine is next to unoticable and i probably wouldn't have found it unless i had already known,it only surfaces at about 1800 rpm on about 1/4 throttle and it is next to unoticable.Buy the newest you can afford with the most toys if you can stretch to a brand new one dm kieth at bradford have 2 se's left to allocate or simpsons at colne have a silver one brand new in there showroom they also have a red one on demo with every option except leather ticked ,they are also possibly the best dealer in the land if you buy from them you will have no problems.

No, both

Avoid all red 05s around your area cos it might be my old one, and you REALLY don't want to buy a car I've owned

Wow, thanks for all the replies!

So I'm ideally looking for a 04-05 plate, hopefully with xenon's, esp and a low milage (around 40k)?

I'm not sure why you would want to pay your local guy to source you a car - which presumably means he will put some mark-up on it.

If you check Auto Trader UK - Buy & Sell New & Used Cars, Car Loans, Car Insurance, the used car national search on koda UK - Home Page, PistonHeads Classifieds and the For Sale section on here you will have access to the majority of cars on sale at any one time.

Also you can consider retro-fitting Xenons if you want to increase the number of results rom your searches. Awesome GTI Store UK - VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda Performance & Styling and plenty of other places will add them.
