TDI 90 bhp Problems

Featured Replies

Posting this on behalf of of one of my mates at work who is at his wits end with his Passat TDI 90 bhp - he doesn't have access to VAGCOM - thought one of you bright techie types might have some good ideas .....

"My 1998 VW Passat 1.9 Tdi (90bhp) is playing up. I have just had the oil and oil filter replaced with Castrol GTD 10W-40 and Uni Part filter at 78,000 miles, and have also replaced the pollen filter, air filter, drained the fuel filter and

severley adjusted the front wheel alignment. Now the car has a bit of trouble

starting, then stalls very easily. It seems to be louder than usual and seems to hesitate for a few seconds when acccelerating especially at reaching 2000 rpm and 3400 rpm.

The car seems to "die" when travelling at lower speeds (40-50mph) in 5th gear, while before it would be quite happy and pull well from these speeds. I

wondered if the non-VW oil filter may be restricting oil flow to the turbo and

causing it to cut out? Thanks for any advice, Ben."

I also know he had some of the intercooler pipework off at the weekend. :)

Not being faceatious, but did he put it back on properly?

Where's he based? If it's round my way I'm happy to plug my laptop in for him.

He thinks he put it on properly but I'll take a look - I presume it should be fairly obvious ? He's based in Ayrshire, so I suspect he won't take you up on your offer, thanks though ! I should have also mentioned in the previous post that there is no ECU or other warning lights.

Had problems with dads octavia, would not seem to come on turbo and felt really restrictive.. Vag-com showed no codes and it just didnt want to rev properly. Very loud too and mpg dropped a bit.

Replaced MAF sensor and job done! spot on! a new car again!!

Mate this thread is 4.5 years old. I don't think the person involved has the problem anymore........or the car !!!
