Knocking Over Bumps

Featured Replies

Went to Newquay last week and because of the bumpy country raods, my car knocked and knocked, did my fruit in.

I had heared the knocking before this but never thought much of it as the roads for my everyday driving are flatter, once in a blue moon it knocked.

I did some testing to see if i could pin point the problem but to no luck.:thumbdwn:

I think i have sourced it to the exhaust as it only happens after about 5 minutes of driving, it never knocks when cold.:o

Knocks come from from front and rear depending on which wheel hits the speed bump.:(

I have had the middle mount welded, which broke and rattled terrible and i have had this checked to see if it is still in place all is good.

I have tried moving the exhaust all over the shop by hand but no knocks.:thumbdwn:

Only way i can get it to duplicate the noise stationary is to grab the front passenger side whell arch and pull up frantically, pushing down frantically does nothing. This makes the knock appear from the rear passenger wheel, maybe exhaust.

As its bank holiday, no one is open, going to book it into the garage around the corner to have a look at asap.

Wondered if anybody has any other suggestions to the knocking.:D

Could it be worn bushes, who knows, i dont know what im looking at underneth my car.:P

Cheers, Matt.

you're probably right, the exhuast or the cat may be banging against something... maybe it's touching the rear axle beam
