Fabia 1.4PD engine bedding in

Featured Replies

Hi

Some advice please.

I have a Fabia 1.4PD that has now done about 2000 miles. According to the trip computer my average MPG is still only around 45-50mpg even though I know the route I drive to work (approx 25 miles of country lanes and A roads) should mean that I should be at least getting something around the combined MPG of approx 60mpg. I am being careful not to push the engine hard as per the Skoda manual instructions.

I have read that the VW PD engines take some time to bed in, but should I be achieving better ecomomy by now? How many miles does it take for the engine to bed in totally?

Warren,

Not quite the same, but I run an Octy TDi and the mpg got better and better until it hit about 10k, when it was nicely loosened up. Keep checking your oil during the first few thousand miles, as they have a bit of a reputation for using some to begin with (mine went through about a litre an a half).

I know someone who has the 1.4PD engine in a Polo, and it's a cracking lump by all accounts.

Same can be said of the petrol engines - my 1.8T was noticeably better at 20k miles than new (pulled faster up hills).
