Remapped?

Featured Replies

hi all

is there any way i can find out if my car has been remapped by a previous owner without having to find a rr

If you can do a 0-60 in 7.5 seconds regularly then it's probably remapped. 9.5 regularly is about the norm for standard - or maybe find someone else with a 130bhp diesel car and compare them?

never thaught about timming it, will have a go when the stupid rain stops

If you use WOT at 2K can your hear a vibration sound coming from the engine bay. If you do this is the DMF vibrating under too much torque. So could point to a remap.

forgive my ignorance what is WOT and DMF

WOT is Wide Open Throttle

Dual Mass Flywheel

an unmapped vrs will die off shortly after 4000 rpm. if it still shifts like a b*tch all the way to the red line - enjoy!

just been for a look and i have a green panel filter and i think ive got a pd160 airpipe ( if its not i dont think a pd160 pipe will fit as theres no room left) and it pulls all the way to red line so i think its remapped whoo, i wonder if ive got anymore goodies attatched,

does anyone know the ride hight roughly from floor to arch with 17" wheels?

the same as with 16" wheels if you have the right tyres.

where did you buy it from? maybe it belonged to a previous member on here? I know my old vRS is out there somewhere....... dunno where tho!

If you are looking to see whether it has been lowered, the springs should be a difference colour - they are black standard. I wish my car had come with all the stuff on! :)

Also is it possible to tell if a car has been remapped with VAG-com or does that only tell you about problems and stuff?

VAG COM can tell you if a car has been remapped and Eibach springs are OE black.

Hope you have told your insurance company.

Oh i have green Weitecs so i presumed others would be coloured. Soz.

I will tell them when i finally get her back to have her remapped. :) so VAG-com can pretty much tell you everything. Cool

Cheers bud

VAG COM can tell you if a car has been remapped.

How?

Measured blocks, look for expected and actual boost figures.

i believe vag-com can tell you how many times an ECU has been flashed but not specifically what the map is, vag-com is also capable of measuring torque which you can then convert into bhp to see if its standard or not :)

it came with rs6 wheels too

Right. Presumably you'd see noticeably higher figures.

on my mates car, (caugh) the measuring blocks, if you hold revs at 3k, shows 1200 specified and around 1600 actual

I'm guessing your friend has more than 130BHP then....:)

You'll find most remappers can alter this reading ;)

my friend does have more than 130bhp indeed

I too wish my car came came with all that. It may be an idea to tell your insurance company that the car isn't standard. It won't make a huge difference to your premium and at least you know that your covered if anything happens.

Honesty is the best policy where insurance companies are concerned.
