Changing number plate bulbs

Featured Replies

Greetings,

A word of warning to Octy estate owners - but this may also apply to the hatchback and possibly the Furby.

When changing a number plate bulb, do not push the bulb in too hard otherwise the bulb holder disappears off inside the tailgate.

I did this (thinking changing a duff bulb would be a five minute job) so I then needed to remove the plastic trim panel on the inside of an estate tailgate - not as easy as it first seemed. After a few failed attempts resulting in scratches in the plastic and paintwork, I found the way was to pull the panel off holding it either side of the wiper motor “bump”. There is enough space to get your fingers behind the panel and a good yank does the trick. Getting it back on is more of a two man job – you need to hook it back into the trim either side of the window and line up the plastic clips before thumping it home. Turns out the bulb holders are only a tight push fit in the tailgate panel.

Thanks for the info - [note to self - don't forget this tip]

Oh those little 5min jobs that take all morning...

You need to start your 5 minute job just as it's starting to get dark in order to get the full benefit :)

Talking of which, off to fit a cold air feed - should only take 5 mins... tra la la :D

I did - started at 6pm on Saturday - tried to get trim panel off with frozen fingers and gave up. Finished the job Sunday afternoon - took about 20mins.

Preferably with the wheels off, on axle stands, and its just starting to rain....

On the older octy estates you will have the same problem when you use the rear washer when its frozen. The pipe pops off the back of the wiper motor and fills your tailgate full of the smelly stuff. That makes removing the trim cover great fun
