Anyone fancy a set of these.....

Featured Replies

I would imagine folding your rear seats flat has the same effect tbh.

( Unless of course your Skoda is capable of extended speeds of over 180 mph )

Quote: 10 3M brand adhesive pads for affixing vortex generators to roof

Makoto Tamada was testing for the suzuka 8 hour a few years back and was complaining about a high speed wobble at about 180mph. The team put vortex generators on his fairing (after much investigation) and he reported it was fine all the way to 200mph.....

Their used on aircraft to break up boundary layer air which helps to prevent it breaking away from control surfaces....

.

Dunno 'bout on cars tho'

And one or two may be capable................... :)

Not for me...

As I said....

( I don't just post fibs you know...)

I bet they make a right mess of your sponge when you wash the car.

well mitsubishi fitted them to the evo VIII FQ 400 so unless they did for absolutely nothing but show then it might make a difference but as said you would have to be going quite fast.

lol

I gotta get some of those ...........i don't think

I dunno if the 3M adhesive would hold at 180MPH and a change in aerodynamics at that speed would be pretty nasty.

The only thing I can see these on are Vauxhall Corsa of Peugeot 106

As previously stated they may make a difference on a car doing 180mph+ but I cant see any Corsa of 106 benefitting from this.

If it becomes a standard add-on for cars with more money spent on mods then purchase price I'm not going to even think about it any longer !

If they work, will they keep your back window clear of cr*p?

They might do. Having had a flip through the Mitsi research paper, it looks as though they help air flowing over the car to follow the roofline so you don't get the pronounced area of separated flow (i.e. drag) behind the rear window. That reduces the drag on the car, but the trouble is that, on their own, this will actually also decrease the DOWNFORCE on the car (cf. Wikipedia - Stall (flight))

The Mitsi boffins argue, however, that in the case of the Evo, the reduced separation of the air flowing over the car helps force more air past the boot spoiler, which increases its effectiveness - thus counteracting the decrease in downforce and actually increasing it overall. Trouble is, that means I think you'd NEED to use them in conjunction with a rear spoiler that's further down the car than they are (i.e. like on a saloon or Octy-style hatch, but not an estate or Furby-style hatch) otherwise you'll have one extremely light rear end at high speed! Mind you, if they're fitted to your stereotypical Corsa or Saxo, some might say it's natural selection in action! :D

All the same, if they help more air flow DOWN over the back of the car, then they ought to help keep the spray away from the rear window too! Just don't drive too fast! ;)

Yeah - lOL "...but officer, I was just testing the effectiveness of the little vortices, otherwise I wouldn't have seen you"

Second thoughts then they may help with "wobbly octy vrs in the wind " syndrome i'l order some now:rolleyes:

ive already seen some 1.2l corsas with these on lol oh boy a standard 1.2l corsa would beat one of these boy racers as the weight from their sound system, lorry exhaust, body kit 'cut n shunt' from a battered up sierra im suprised the car can even move.

Only cheap. I'll give em ago.

I've just had a proper look at the ad. They don't look to erm... inspiring on that 350Z.

If it's just keeping the rear screen cleaner, maybe it's easier swapping the radio aerial for a sharks-fin type of thingy.

Or maybe do both :D

Disclaimer: I will not be doing this to my car.
