Fabia 1.2 - engine cover

Featured Replies

i have lost my drivers manual + was wondering if anyone could help on advising how the engine cover comes off - i think i have a cylinder misfiring :)

Just gently pull it up at the front and it should detach itself. It has some rubber inserts which fit over metal prong type things. It will be quite stiff if you have never had to do it before.

Tip - maybe useful to wear some gloves - I grazed my hand last time I did this, also before removing the cover disconnect the small vacuum hose on the right hand side of the cover.

Interesting point this.

My May 06 Fabia doesn't have an engine cover fitted at all. It surprised me when I first looked under the bonnet cos both my previous Fabias had covers installed (but they were 1.4's)

Spoke to a mate with an identical Fab but a month older than mine and he has no engine cover either ??? Both cars bought brand new from same dealer.

There are two bosses visible on top of the cylinder head which I presume are what the cover clips over.

Must check with the dealer and get one ordered up. There again, does it actually have any useful purpose or is it just more junk to carry around unnecessarily ?

I can get you a 1.9 TDI engine cover if need be, but it's on a local fabia languishing in a scrapyard - I remember seeing the cover on it when I had a look under the bonnet. :)

Thanks for the offer Jason but I'll pursue it with the dealer first - I reckon I've paid for it so I might as well have it. I'm puzzled as to why both cars I know from that garage are missing the covers - bit of a coincidence.

When I speak to them I'll take the opportunity to get the leaky door seals sorted as well.

Good luck with the mongrel - your updates are always a good read.

Maybe it's another cost cutting measure? I know Ford ditched the engine cover on the Mondeo in around 2004 as a cost cutting measure!

I ditched mine by choice of mod. It wouldn't go over my new pipework, so I removed the two brackets off the front of the engine, right back to the head. :D In fact I wonder if I took the one off the back of the engine?! ;)

They no longer have the engine cover as they have a seperate airbox so the cover is redundant.
