Headunit/Amp wiring woes!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Need some help with my install. Basically I have put in some components in the front and amps and sub in the boot. The headunit is an Alpine 9835R and the wiring loom has been unchanged apart from the power/live cables being reversed (didn't buy an autoleads adaptor). The remote amp cable is attached to the correct wire (blue/white) and the ariel booster is connected to this too.

Heres the problem:

When I plug the loom into the back of the headunit, the amps come on, even though there is no key in the ignition. There is also a slight white noise coming from the tweeters. Then when I turn the key and put the headunit on, there's a loud bang from the components and everything is ok. When the unit is powered off there's no loud bang but the amps stay on.

Any ideas what it could be?

First guess is the remote is connected to a constant live.

No idea on the other.

As well as the amp being on all the time, you will find your HU also always has power, the reason is the octavia2 has no switched live connections behind the HU. To get a switched live supply you need to run either a wire to the fusebox, or run a wire through the bulkhead to the battery. if you choose the battery, then ensure a fuse is placed as close to the battery as possible and not at the amp end.

mannyo it's a fabia, not sure if it has the same problem.

john: how did you connect the amp remote cable? Was it to the normal remote amp cable on the wiring loom?

I'm going to have a go at swapping some wiring around, if the amps turn on AFTER the headunit then it should get rid of the bang when the headunit powers up.

Does you new replacement hu not have an amp remote cable, usually coloured blue (not be confused with the aerial remote thats blue/white). Connecting the amp remote power on to that should mean the amp and hu come on at the same time.

With the Kenwood I had it connect to the remote cable on the kenwood loom.

With the std radio I've got it connected to the remote cable on the RCA pre out loom which I got from bluespot.

If you have any problems give us a shout and I'll call round.

Aerial booster - try disconnecting it.

Check all connections out and make sure it's wired correcly.

Hi guys I've had another look with my mate and all the wires out of the Alpine loom we're staying on even after the ignition is switched off. So I can't use any of those. Linked it to the ignition wire (yellow I think) and at least the amps switch off when the keys are out, BUT when I turn the car on and then turn the headunit on I get a loud bang from the front speakers. Going to ask Alpine and see what can be done as it's a bit annoying!
