Update on the mongrel

Featured Replies

Just had a phone call. Estimated 250bhp from the mongrel, running on just diesel. The LPG is proving something of a quandry as with it on or off, it's having no effect on performance at all. Apparently it's smoking a lot too still, which will be dealt with tomorrow. All in all though, I'm chuffed to hear it's coming along nicely.

Quote from Lloyd Allard, "It would compete with our race car now" and "It's too bloody fast!"

take the LPG off Jase , it only excess weight , lol

You have Nos anyway :)

If it comes down to it, and there is ZERO gain from the LPG, I will remove it. The tank is roughly 25kg when full of gas I think. I still get economy gains from under it normal driving.

Think of all the cable ties you'll save without the LPG in there too ;)

God bless the manufacturer of cable ties. :D

I was waiting for this post!!!

Good going mate - hope you file a proper flight plan before your first test drive!!

What an odd diversion this thread has taken, but it's understandable given my car. Never underestimate the power of a cable tie.

i've got 4 of the things in my coat pocket

I've got a bag of them in my tool"bag" I have in the car. You just never know!

My rubber exhaust mounting completely broke ,exhaust dangling down ,but cable ties to the rescue ,fixed it as good as new , i took it in for a service ,they had no mounting in stock ,so it was on there when i sold the car

Update today - no real work done. Other jobs took priority. Work being done tomorrow as I really need my car back Friday night. :)

Well, today has had some successful results with the old tuning. The car is now as LLoyd put it "too fast". Boost is now held at a steady 2 bar, which is a bit higher than I imagined it might be, but the turbo is good and strong and will have no issues at that pressure. Good news is the spiking is now down to normal levels and I will no longer have to drive around the turbo....

Bad news? Well, it will depend how much smoke there is. :D I'm told there "is smoke" - but in a low down TDI way - which isn't bad. As long as it's less smoke that it has done before then I'll be chuffed. Also means there's excess fuel for the nitrous to burn. ;) The LPG is still an unsure. I will need to dyno it with/without lpg to find out for sure. Lloyd can feel nothing though, but how easy is it to tell at those kind of power levels? :D

I collect her tomorrow lunchtime, and hope to nip to TSR on the way back south. ;)

sounds awesome :D

Well done mate

Got her back now. Journey was a right pain coming back sarf, but I had a chance to test it out. Findings so far:

1) It doesn't feel much faster than before, but it clearly is

2) It's smoking a lot less than it used to.

3) I can now use WOT without worrying about the environment. :D

4) Turbo boost is so stable it's untrue.

I suspect there will be more work as and when, but for now I'm happy with my "estimated" 250bhp (to be confirmed ;)) and there's no news on what the nitrous will do. There's definitely enough fuel to clean up though. :)
