Zimmerman discs

Featured Replies

I have just recieved my order from GSF parts for brakes.

I ordered a full set Brembo discs front and back, and mintext pads (couldnt afford anything else......boohooooo!)

However, I have just recieved the delivery:-

2 x front zimmerman discs

1 x rear zimmerman disc

1 x rear Jurid disc

1 set of Jurid pads

1 set of Textar pads

I spoke to the salesman at the Glasgow office and he told me that Zimmerman and Brembo are the same - I questioned this as I doubt they are, he tod me they are recorded as the same part number on their system.........he is away to investigate.

Does anyone know if they are the same discs (im doubting it myself)?

What are peoples thoughts on the Jurid and Textar pads?

Help would be appreciated as I was hoping to get started this weekend as the rear discs are starting to crack....................

Don't Jurid make some of the OE pads for the VAG group and BMW (they are on Passats and 1 series) ? As for Textar - again OEM stuff, I know they do Merc ones.

Don't know if you were trying to get OE standard or upgrades.....

The Zimmermans seem to be an upgrade - heat treated after the drilling IIRC. Think Awesome sell them so maybe drop Sarah a PM....

Tavia, these Zimmermans arenet drilled. I had read posts about drilled Zimmermans but nothing about undrilled.

Anyway, he has phoned back saying that the Zimmermans were sent because the Brembos are out of stock

Do you know if the Zimmermans are of better quality than Brembo?

They are supposedly OE spec discs so there shouldn't be too many issues. I take it these aren't an upgrade?

Oooh

No we dont sell Zinnerman , would not entertain them myself

After going through 2 sets of GSF`s Brembo discs too that have warped , I dont think I would go down that route again

Brembo and Zimmerman are completly different makes too

Mmmm , I would question that!

Sorry

Sarah

Sarah, can you suggest any non-upgrade discs?

Hi

No we dont do them , we can get them from GSF , but not my kind of item , price wise they are not bad

But I have warped 2 sets of Brembo`s on my Fabia before I had it mapped , nice...... that would make them quite expensive in the long run for some people

But am not keen myself , I am going to try the ZeroSixty ones next

Sarah

Aren't discs like pads and dampers; only ever replace them in axle sets?

That is correct

mmm I would say OEM price them up , dont know prices , amy be worth asking a dealer what make are OEM

I never had a problem with the OEM ones that was on my car , just the Brembo ones , was not impressed as I did not get many miles out of them , got them replaced under warranty , but not impressive as I am not THAT heavy on the brakes

Sarah

What I meant to say was "matched axle sets". So I'd not even accept a delivery that contained 2 different makes of disc for one axle!

I am going to try the ZeroSixty ones next

Sarah

Does that mean the set I'm having put on mine are going to be guinea pigs? :worried:

ap0gee, what are you putting on yours?

Ken, I am sending the 'odd' discs back for sure - I wasnt impressed with GSF tbh.

I need to keep the budget low on the replacement of the discs and pads - can anyone suggest discs and pads to buy and where to purchase them from?

cheers peeps

ZeroSixtys all-round, with Mintex pads - not the most expensive set-up (hardly cheap, either :( ) but hopefully a decent compromise between price and stopping power... They're being done next week at Awesome, so it sounds like Sarah will be interested to find out what they're like, too!

Hi

Oh no , we have had LOADS of these fitted and have had great reports on them

With the pricings of them too , I decided this is my next little thing on my car
