Alarm not working Mk1 Octy vRS

Featured Replies

The alarm on my car has not worked since I bought it (I didn't actually know there was one!) I don't have interior sensors (although I did find the wires for them behind the A pillar trim some time ago - never been connected by the looks of it). I have the sounder under the scuttle panel, mounted on the same metal bracket as the ECU, there is also a microswitch built into the bonnet catch. Whilst at a local specialist today I was having a few settings altered with vag com and asked the guy if he could enable the beep for lock/unlock - when he checked the settings he found that it was already active. He then tested the alarm with vag com, when he did so I could hear a relay click as if it was trying to sound the alarm but nothing happened.

I'm just wondering if anyone in the know has come across this or if anyone has any ideas for a cure?

Thanks :o

P.S. I know the Mk1 vRS didn't come with an alarm but I'm wondering if it was one of the additions on the WRC edition.

Using the vag chassis number decoder I have now established that my car was fitted with an alarm from the factory so I'm now on a mission to make it work

I have found this picture, Parts labeled '4' are the ultrasonic sensors which do not look like any I have seen before, does anyone know where they are positioned in the car? The picture is not very specific.

it could be that the alarm is working but the sounder is dead. Maybe water ingress has killed the speaker or electrics.

Thanks for the reply Mannyo. I have been trawling the internet and have found that Audi TT's (which seem to use a very similar sounder) have a very common problem with the sounder dying. I've had mine out to get the part number so I'll get a price on Tuesday and then weigh that up against the cost of having the problem investigated by Skoda!

Cheers

Phil.

Does anyone know if there is a control box somewhere? Or is it possible that the alarm is not active (vag-com job?). Sorry to flood the place with posts, I'm just completely in the dark about this and my local dealer were not too sure either.

I think the alarm is coded via 46 Comfort System, changes can be made by going into 10 and the looking at the channels.

Have a look through the label file if there is one, these give a good indication of what can and can't be done in that controller. Also to test the siren/sounder you could try enabling the central locking beeps - I think it uses the same sounder.

This is from a golf/octavia label file of take a look at these channels and check out if the alarm is installed -

Well I managed to get a friend to have a look today using vag com. There was a fault reported, 01333 door control module rear left (j388) 49-00 no comuication. The fault was wiped but after we tried unlocking/locking the car and testing it again the fault was back :( Any ideas? Also he tested the alarm siren using vag com - I could clearly hear a relay clicking somewhere below the steering wheel but no sound - I have replaced the siren box already with a brand new one :(

The rear left door loocks/unlocks as it should and the interior light works when you open it.

Any thoughts?

Could be a loose wire inside the door, so the ecu is not getting the signal that the door has infact locked/unlocked successfully.

Have you checked the CL module in the boot Phil? These are known to get wet if the rear washer pipe seperates.

That is the route I was thinking. I've had the door card off just now and there is nothing obvious, The connector seem ok too. I'm wondering if it's the lock mechanism itself... I may try to see if I can strip it down. The only thing I'm thinking is that surely the alarm would sound under the test situation (when the relay clicked) regardless of the door problem?

No, I'll do that. Again though, would this stop the alarm sounding under test conditions?

Thanks for the help people!
